outlaw vs. rotel

I am thinking of buying a used Rotel RMB 1090 (5 channels, 340W@4ohm...so they say) amplifier. Have read some mixed opinions on it saying bass is punchy and highs slightly harsh. Would save me a pretty penny though. The more expensive route (would rather avoid) was to do the outlaw 990(preamp)/either 7500 or 7700 (300 W@ 4 ohm {5vs7 channel}) combo. I know most here love outlaw but has anyone tried the rotel. Just trying to fuel those incredible sounding, beautiful pieces of furniture we call Lsi15'3. Thank you.

What pre amp are you currently using?

I was just going to use a middle of the road receiver with pre outs. My choice was going to be based on the processes for HT. If the outlaw then the above preamp (990).

I would personally prefer Rotel, but Outlaw is a good choice, too.

Audiobliss have you tried both and if so could you tell me the different results.

Outlaw is nice and they would like to be as good as Rotel. I also perfer Rotel over Outlaw. Outlaw hits a price point that makes them a very high value, so does Rotel. Basically you have to listen to both and decide which you like better.

    Both are good choices.

Sorry to say my statement was a generalization. I have not heard them and so cannot compare them.

Yep, I've listened to both and own Outlaw. Not trashing Rotel, but to my ears, the Outlaw is a better sounding amp. The Rotel (can't remember the model) has harsh and lacked depth.

If at all possible, order the Outlaw and try to get a loaner Rotel and listen to them both with a favorite piece of music and see what you think. If the Outlaw doesn't sound as good or better the the Rotel you send it back. No harm no foul. Yes you'll be out the cash to ship it but it's worth it to find an amp that yo'll get a lot of use out of.
