Hookup of older CD player to Denon 3805

I just purchased the Denon 3805 and have a question about hooking up an older CD player. I have an older (much) Sony ES 5-disc CD player that has both analog and optical outputs. I am assuming that if I use the analog outputs, the CD player does the digital->analog conversion, whereas if I use the optical output, the receiver will be doing the digital->analog conversion. First, is this assumption correct? Secondly, what would be the recommendation for hookup?
Thanks,
Ray

Your assumption is correct. Your Denon has a very nice array of Burr Brown DAC's. Try it both ways, but I can all but guarantee that using the optical out and letting your receiver do the DAC will be the way to go.No earth robot is going to tell ME which button to press!!
