That would be my vote as well. (although SDA 1b's with upgraded tweets are pretty awesome as well.)

The 15's had my vote, thats why I purchased them (for under $1,000).

If you are open to purchasing used, go out and start listening. There are a ton of speaker brands available, find some you like and then see what you can get.

Open ended question. Literally hundreds of options. You'll have to tell us stuff like:

    - if the tower speakers will be used primarily for HT or 2-channel
    - the type of music you listen to
    - WAF considerations
    - new or used
    - accompanying components
    - space constraints
    - room size
    - aesthetic preferences
    - sensitivity, and
    - what you're looking for -- sweet midrange, low bass, wide soundstage, etc.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

    O.K. Early B. here goes

-Mostly HT some music 80% 20%
-Every thing from George Strait to AC/DC
-WAF, I don't know what that is , sorry still learning
-New or used, either is fine as long as used is in good shape
    -Componnents
    - HK AVR 635
    - CS400i (center)
    - RTi6 ( mains right now but to be moved to side surrounds)
    - RTi 4 ( side surrounds to be moved to back surrounds)
    -Klipsch KSW 15 (sub)
-Space is really not a problem but SDA's might be alittle to big
-Room size is an L shape 20Lx13w in front 26w in back vaulted ceiling 8' to11'
-Aesthetics, really would like a taller speaker to blend with hieght of the T.V.
(around 5'7'') and I'd like them to be black to match the rest of the speakers_
    - Sensitivity, not sure?
    - Looking for something wth good highs but not to harsh good mid down to around 40 htz.

Also do not want to limit my self to just the RTi line just to match the rest of the speakers ,I'll upgrade the rest later, but if thats the best choice I am willing to go that way, also I will add externals amps later but only if need be

Thanks for answering the questions. Based on those responses, you've narrowed down your options considerably. I'd suggest the RTi10, possibly with external amplification later on. After the fronts, the sub should be the next upgrade.

If you get another type of speaker, you'll at least want the matching center channel.

The RTi10's are great speakers; I just think that if you have a good sub you can save some money and get the 8's with absolutely no loss.

Not necessarily. First, Millerman will have the option of running the 10's on LARGE and get a fuller sound with loads of bass. That's what I did when I owned the 10's and I loved it.

Second, even if he uses a sub and puts the 10's on SMALL, he's gonna get a fuller sound than the 8's can provide, and for HT you really want a full sound.

Third, Millerman's room size is significant and it could certainly benefit from larger floorstanders.

Fourth, Millerman has expressed interest in external amplification and once he powers those 10's with an amp, he'll be in sonic heaven.

I would say yes, because the sound is different in each. (I know some people who like the 8's but hate the sound of the 10's and vice versa)

I would listen to both and see if you like the sound of one or the other. If the sound is the same either way to you - go with the one you want.

Go with the 8's and use the $300.00 against a nice sub. I do agree, the 10's would give you a fuller sound in your room though.

Listen to both and see if it is worth the $300.00 more.

I think i'am going to just bite the bullet and try and find some LSI 15's, I'am the type of person who thinks that he can always do better and if I spend a $1000 now on something out of the RTi line I'll always be second guessing my self and still looking to upgrade to some thing better so i might as well speand the money now on some 15's rather than speand the money on some RTI 10's and in a year be wondering if i could have done better and be stuck with a set of speakers i 'am not happy with or THINK I'am not happy with that is

A friend of mine here on the forum Is hooking me up with a set of RTI10's at a good price so I'am going to go that way and see what happens and I'll upgrade the center to a CSi 5 in a couple of months I really wanted to go LSi but money and space for amps is kinda tight right now and alot of the folks here talk very highly of the 10's so I'am sure I won't be dissapointed, later

I'm sure you'll find the 10's to be more than satisfactory. I'm quite happy with them, even after 3 years. If you only listen to music 20% of the time, honestly, you've no need to go LSi. The Rti are great speakers for movies, and only someone who really sits and listens to music for the sheer pleasure, relishing the openness of sound and level of detail need take the plunge into the LSi territory. Then, you're really not hearing them properly w/o a good amp, so it sounds like the 10's are a perfect match for you. As music speakers they are still very good, if not quite as smooth in the highs and detailed as Lsi. Plus, the 10's will sound pretty good on your receiver, and you could move up to a better amp for the 10's for music playback later on. Two Outlaw monoblocks can be had for under $700. That's a pretty good deal. That will be like a speaker upgrade in and of itself.
