The Fender Twin Reverb.

There is no substitute. I can't find a better sounding amp anywhere at any price It's the one for me. The power and clean tone is just to die for.

So the amp has been found and it is the one. Now if I can only lock down on a guitar I would be set. Most likely going to be one of the Strats I have already demo'd. American H1 with a double humbucker in the bridge position.If nothing else floats my boat.

yep, strat w quiet pickups. of course, keeping the neck pickup single coil is cool, too

Totally agree. The 65 Twin reverb reissue is what I'm getting. I used to have a 1974 Twin reverb. I loved it then I love it now, the sound is about exactly how I remember it. Whats funny about it is if you put a not so good sounding guitar in front of it, it tells you all about it.

I played a really nice Strat American today and man.....

They make a Neck and Bridge setup American humbucker setup. I don't know if thats what I'm looking for but It's really nice. Funny how Fender Strats are all custom these days. I don't remember one like that when I was playing. Hell I like it alot.

Great amp, Dan!

You could always build your own Strat and have everything just the way you want it. There are several good sources for bodies and necks. I like to mix-n-match the old with the new -- using some NOS Fender parts and some things (tuners for one) from the American Standard series. One of the very best necks I've used was a fairly inexpensive Mighty Mite (licensed by Fender) with bird's eye maple to die for, jumbo frets, and a 9.5"R "C" profile. I cut the nut by hand from a block of bone, nitro'ed the headstock and fret board, and just sealed the back of the neck. Every player that's had it in their hands wants to buy it. It's going nowhere!

It would be very cool to build my own guitar but I'm gonna find one to buy for now. Maybe one day I will build one( in the past I did some pickup upgrades).

i like the single coil in the neck and middle positions. gives that 'knopfler sound'.

As a rule, I stick with single coils in my build projects. Here's the only guitar I've done with a humbucker to date, built for my brother from a picture he sent me of a Scott Lentz ($5K) design. Pups were custom winds by Fralin. The Lentz model had a 24 3/4" set neck. I went with a 25 1/2" 4-bolt, 9 1/2" radius "V" (ala "Blackie"), with American Standard tuners. I hated the bound body until the whole thing came together. Pickguard, bridge, knobs are all catalog items. Cloth covered wire and Orange Drop tone cap. Sounds like a Fat Strat or a Nocaster.

Is it me or are single coil pickups noisy? A few of them I played seemed to be noisy when not playing. The Humbucker was dead quiet.

thats an intresting looking guitar. Why do you use a humbucker in the neck position and a single in the bridge position? How does that sound together?
