I think I went ghetto tonight. I was drink jack over ice and then the roommate comes home and puts ****' Gimlet in it and mixes it with some diet sprite ****.

And for the love of god...the original name for Jaeger Bombs was so much better - '****'

    I agree...
put a small, yet descent 2 ch rig together, and statrt auditioning speaks at home..

Nothing like gaining knowledge outside the box...cardboard in this case..!!

The FM in this forum will allow you to put something together on the cheap, and there are many tustworthy individuals here....and a few scetchy ones too, but they are easy to spot, and don`t last long..

I have many items that I have, and will let go for cheap...even to Cananada..!!

Wow some funny & informative stuff happens when a bored person posts late at night! :D

Good job Tweeter, however, like Jesse I would also disagree with you as far as CRT's go. The picture just can't be beat, & with tv's it's ALL about the video!

As for putting together a small system, do keep your eyes on this forums Flea Market. However, your education & wedding do take priority!

LOL! :D Sorry Bear, but since Tweeter & I are both women, I think weddings will always take priority over just about everything else! LOL! :D

Sorry guys...not putting off the wedding.... :P

However, I stand corrected with the CRTs... some do have high Def... but CRTs are a dying race.... like the 8track, cassette, VCR.....

For 2G and under, you just can't beat a good CRT (sony's xbr/kg)
    for DVD and cable.

I'd push that bar higher... like $3500 or so. Under that, you're settling for smaller screen size if you want a quality model. For less than that you can get a high-end 60"+ CRT RPTV and an ISF calibration to make it sing.

Unfortunately, the CRT share of the HDTV market keeps getting smaller and smaller as many makers shift to DLP, so there are fewer quality CRT models to choose from. Far too often the determining factor is "coolness" and WAF rather than picture quality. Then again, the vast majority of buyers wouldn't know a quality picture if it bit them in the ****. These same people drop $2K+ on HDTV sets and leave them at factory defaults with sharpness and contrast at max. :(

"But look how bright my picture is!"

    Bleagh. Morons...

I am not real happy with the current trend of abandonment of CRT HDTV models ... simply because I think the vast majority of alternatives right now at the same price points are actually a step down in quality. Plasmas and most DLP sets still can't produce a real black like a CRT can. That will probably change at some point, but it ain't here now, yet CRT HDTVs are being phased out. Not good.

Also projectors are not always a viable solution. Yes, there are some great bang-for-the-buck projectors out there (I used to own an Infocus X1, which was one of the first "Giant Killer" projectors), but unless you have complete control over lighting conditions, forget it. I watch movies and satellite while I am working. I could not do that with a projector...

If you work at Future Shop, you should be able to snag a pair of Polk R15's pretty cheap. I got my pair for $80 CDN on boxing day and they're amazing speakers for their price range.

There you go. A good start on a decent stereo system!
