Bored out of my MIND

Hello Polkiefolk!
I am brand spankin' new to these here forums... I am also currently sitting at my desk at work training to become a Home Theater salesperson. My eyeballs are about to melt out of my head and my computer monitor is in grave danger of being thrown across the room in a fit of fury. Eight hours of product knowledge training can do funny things to one's mind....
So, I implore of you fine folk and people to entertain me.... for the sake of my eyeballs and monitor.
Thank you.

I think its on the verge of being too late.... *weeps dramatically*
C'mon there's 14 of you viewing this forum.... what's new? -
Hmm. I guess it would be a pain to memorize the specs on who knows how many pieces of equipment. Perhaps entertaining for the first six or seven, but then...
Just curious, what company are you working for? What brands do you sell? Start impressing me with your new-found knowledge!George Grand wrote: »

Weeeeelll... *cracks knuckles*..... We ("we" being FutureShop in good ol' Canada) carry Polk Audio (hence why I am here), Mirage, JBL, Harman Kardon, Yamaha, Bose, Quest Theatre... etc etc. And my mind is about to blow like a cheap speaker. I can sell ya a TV and tell you all there is to know about Plasma, DLP, LCD and CRT.... but speakers are just plain confusing.

Do you own Polk speakers? If so, which ones? If not, what do you own? (You'll notice from my signature that I do not own Polk speakers.)Tweeterpated wrote:And my mind is about to blow like a cheap speaker.
You mean like a JBL or Bose or Yamaha speaker?Tweeterpated wrote:I can sell ya a TV and tell you all there is to know about Plasma, DLP, LCD and CRT.... but speakers are just plain confusing.
Then, if you're bored and don't mind, can you briefly explain the differences in technology, performance, and price in the above mentioned TV technologies? I'm pretty much clueless.George Grand wrote: »

I do not own Polk speakers... nor any speakers.... I am poor; thus why I am working as a commissioned sales rep. :P
LCD: Liquid Crystal Display. You can get this as a rear projection or flat panel. Rear projection is 12-14 inches deep and provides excellent "True Color" along with its flat panel (2-4 inches deep) cousin. An excellent option for casual TV viewers and for those who like to hook up Computers to their TVs. Most are HD, but you will always need good cables to make the picture its best. Lifespan= 60,000 hours, bulb is replaceable and has a life of 8,000hrs.
DLP: Digital Light Projection. Provides excellent "Vibrant color". It is 12-14 inches thick and is excellent for movie goers. It also has a lifespan of 60,000 hours and a bulb of 8,000 hours. Unlike LCD, however, DLP will NEVER experience color decay in which one of the three main colours (blue, green and red) decays making the picture appear more dominantly reddish or blueish. This is the TV I would recommend this one for overall price and quality. Disadvantage is that it has a rotating color wheel and micromirror device..... more parts means more things that can go wrong.
Plasma: Life is also 60,000 hours. Provides AMAZINGLY crisp and clear images with a 170 degree viewing angle. This is the creme de la creme of TVs.... and the price shows it. If I had the money, I would buy this one as I prefer the crispness of the picture and the brightness of the display. It has a rare mix of gases which when excited my electricity emit an ultraviolet light of a specfic color... meaning.... no bulb... the gasses light themselves up. -
Soooooo, if ya'll need anything, come to meeeee! Help support a poor full-time-college-student-part-time-home-theater-expert.

*twiddle* I'm sitting here like the nerd I am pushing "refresh" over and over in hopes of a reply.

Why don't you *attempt* to peice together a rig, seeing as this is a Polk forum and all. I think it's great you sell the product, I think it sucks you know nothing about it other than whats on paper.
You know, you drive into, say, the Dodge dealership to buy a car, and the salesman shows up on a Schwinn? You won't last long here, with nothing in your bag. Start making a plan. You've got a employee discount to boot. I assume you do like SOME music.
We've got plenty of guys here that work for Polk dealers, some are the dealer themselves. We've got hardcore Tweeter installers, that have been here for years (ask Dan). Don't expect a lot of phonecalls for advice at this point.

You skipped CRT, but ok. Good job! Seriously, though, thanks for the info. Will need to remember that, as Dad is wanting a new TV for the den.George Grand wrote: »

Excellent idea. You can combine your discount along with the incredible deals offered here in the Flea Market forum to piece together a respectable, affordable (maybe even cheap) stereo rig. You should try it. Would be fun and surprisingly doable.George Grand wrote: »

Yeah... that would be nice... I have been drooling over the home audio systems but.... I'm getting married this summer and can't afford anything other than Tuition, Rent, and Wedding stuff.... no speakers for meeee.
-
Well, it does sound like your money's spread pretty thin. But, you have to have your priorities right! Put off the wedding for a year (or two!) and get you some speakers now!George Grand wrote: »

I strongly disagree. The best picture quality to this date is still on a CRT, much as the best sound quality comes from having tubes in the mix. Tubes rule, always will.Political Correctness'.........defined

Here's a brief snippet from a Crutchfield flyer that came the other day.
Listed in the "Pros" column:
Plasma - screen's phosphor coating creates lifelike color that is closest to CRT's
LCD - no mention of PQ
DLP - no mention of PQ
LCD (Big Screen) - no mention of PQ
LCoS/SXRD - no mention of PQ
CRT - can deliver best picture qualityPolitical Correctness'.........defined
