Well, I'll tell you why. Direction, my friend, direction.

In "The Professional," she's playing a special role. She's playing a dangerous role, morally, for both her and the director. And so, Besson took pains to make her appear innocent, and yet knowing; womanly beautiful, yet child-like. Her face was not so angular, she had yet to grow into her tallness. She retained a certain childlike, soft look that belied her lack of years (she was, after all, only 12) without ruining her looks.

Check out "Beautiful Girls," the Tim Hutton movie in which she plays the mysterious yet pivotal girl-next-door. In that movie, she's just beginning to lose whatever it is that made her special in "The Professional." She looks a little more grown-in, a little more adult, but she still retains that bit of childlike look of innocence that is so beguiling. She's incredible in the role (and the director wisely chooses to not "Besson" her, but just to let her act her way thru it), and her character turns that stupid movie into something deeper, something more ethereal.

Now, she's just a gawky-looking post-teenager. No question she's a beautiful girl. But she just had it all -- no awkwardness, no adult body issues, plus GREAT, loving direction (you could tell that Besson was also in love with her, the way he shot it, especially in the expanded Euro version) -- in "The Professional." Soon, very soon, she will hit "the wall," and she won't be that good looking anymore.

She'll always be Matilda to me.

I wonder if your guy watch the International version DVD of the "Professional" ? The title on this DVD is "Leon The Professional" and it has some extra speacial features and extra footages... Micah if you like the performance of Gary Oldman in this one, try to watch the "Contender", you'll love it...

Yeah, I much prefer the Euro version of the "Leon." Loads of more footage of Natalie, and the relationship is much deeper; she is much more attractive because of it, too. Great, great direction.

I only wish the DVD were as well mastered as the stupid cut 'Merican version. (Lots of shimmering in the Euro version.)

I loved "The Contender." I thought it was a great film. A great surprise. Excellent acting. Important film. Everyone acted their brains out in that one, especially Oldman, who virtually diappears into his role. He's actually my least favorite part of "Leon." He overdoes it. I hate the bit of dialog about the composers in the apartment right before he kills the family. He's just cheesy. And Beethoven is never "boring." But he gets it in the end, so I guess he had to be sort of overdone.

And run over to Micah's desk and smack him!

He's getting all artsy fartsy on us again with this Natalie Portman issue. He needs a night out at Kaos.

I don't care what she stars in or how she acts. She scores high with me on the hot babe list! Just look at that bod in her Star Wars outfit. I'll be her Jedi Master anyday.
    No excuses!

Well put John! Micah, stop trying to sound like some movie critic; we're talking about hot women here, not movies! You know, women? Oh, you don't know? Sorry.....

Ya think? She's a bit long in the tooth and has definitely not aged as well as Sela Ward.

I always think of Anne and Mimi Rogers as sort of like that: hot, but not aging well.

The absolute best possible thing about, what was it, "Austin Powers"?, was Mimi in that black leather cat suit at the very beginning. Worth the rental.

    Don't be like that.......

Anne Archer in Fatal Attraction in the white cotton underwear....very cool. She still has fantastic eyes and DSL's

Mimi Rodgers is one of those chicks who looks really hot, until they get naked. You know the type. The catsuit was great however.

I think we would be remiss to not mention Renee Russo, she ages well too. She was great in the Thomas Crown Affair.....

No. Rene Russo is a zero. Like Jeane Triplehorn. Yucky. Not attractive, really. Horsey.

And once and for all, this Peter North thing: the guy is just some "freak a'f---in' nature" (as Ford Fairlane says) **** guy (he could be dead now for all I know) who must eat nothing but protein; breakfast, lunch, dinner and pre-money-shot-snack. For him, "10cc" really is just the name of a sappy 70s band. It's just not fair is all. That's all it is. I just don't understand it. No tubes, trick photography or edit tricks: the guy is always FULL UP, and always just lets an unreal amount of stuff fly, if I can say that without getting too freaking gross. That's all. I'm just fascinated by his AMOUNT. That's it. No **** stuff happening, no offense meant to **** or male **** stars. I'm just commenting on a freakish thing.

Plus, I don't like Rene Russo's politics. That gets in the way for me. So there.

    I'm dyin' over here!

Still not seeing the dude, I will take your word for it. Hey, I respect a guy who appreciates someone who has unique ability.

I have never let personal politics interfere with personal, physical gratification. That is my policy. Renee has great legs. hmmmmmm

Jeanne Tripplehorny and Laura Flynn Boyle, those are two that I could never get to enthusiastic about.

Oh my God! That pic of Natalie is awesome Micah.

    Right click...save as

    To quote Bill Ingval (sp?)

To define the word awesome. It would be Natalie showing up at my front door with nothing on but a robe and a note in her hand from my wife saying "enjoy". Now that, would be awesome.

    Peace Out~:D

I'm sure "Jedi" Peter North wouldn't mind giving his "Lightsaber" to "Queen Amidala" Natalie Portman.

Oh good lord, now Micah is rubbing off on me. I need to stay off this site before I get the urge to rent Peter North videos just to see him shoot his magnum!

I think I'll go rent "Leon the Professional" and dream of Natalie. See, there I go again! More nasty urges courtesy of Micah.

Maybe I'll just turn on the radio.
