Did you check out the new Reference lines from Klipsch? They've got pics from CES. The new top of the line tower makes our RF-35 look like bird poo.
I haven't seen the new Reference line, but I'll have to check it out now that you say they have some pics up.
How are the Wave 8's? I'm loving them! I just listened through just about all of my Chris Isaak CD and a few other songs through them, and it just sounds so awesome!
One thing I'm not sure about, though, is volume. My Yamaha receiver (that I'm using as a preamp) goes from -80 to +15 for the volume. Previously -15 was plenty loud. Listening to music today I had it turned up to -8, and I thought it sounded hollow. I thought I might be pushing the Waves further than I should, so I backed it down to -10. However, I didn't like the sound so I soon turned it up to -4 and it was just perfect. The music had 'body' and emphasis; it sounded like it was supposed to. However, I'm just not sure how far I can push the Waves before they start distorting; I don't want to over drive them.RuSsMaN wrote:You did know that. I specifically told you before you even attach the power cord to your amps, to make sure speakers were connected. You just didn't listen.
Now that you mention it, it seems like I do remember you saying that. At any rate, I do now remember feeling weird connecting my speaker wire to the Waves when they weren't even plugged in yet.RuSsMaN wrote:His 8's should be kicking **** and taking names, with the mods.
I can't attest to that since the only thing I can compare them to is a receiver, but I'm all grins and giggles over here listening to them! I can't wait to get a tube pre and 'complete the picture'!George Grand wrote: »

Sweet. You can push those Waves. When you hear distortion coming, back off on volume knob. It's safe to over drive tube amps. This is how guitar players get the distortion they want.
Don't really know about the issue you're having with the receiver acting as a pre. Maybe the output signal on the pre outs is a little weak or it could be an impedance match issue.
Are you running your RF-35 with the grills? They sound a lot better with the grills on. More focused mids and the sound isn't as forward. Just better balance overall. I think Klipsch voiced the RF line with the grills on. If you look at it, you can see that it's curved. Proabably to help with dispersion.
Pump those Waves.

Oops, I forgot. Here's a link to the new Reference models. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/662956/ShowPost.aspx

Yeah, I run mine with the grills on, as I usually don't have enough time to take them off and kick back and relax when I listen to them. But it's interesting that they sound better with the grills on. Novel idea to voice them with the grills on. Makes sense.
Why I'm worried about over driving the Waves is not because I doubt their ability as much as I doubt my ability to discern distortion from a regular signal. Could be pushing it to distorting and not even know it. I hope not, though.
Thanks for the link!George Grand wrote: »

I think Polk also voice their speakers for a flat freq response with the grills on. I like my RT15i with the grills but can go either way with my LSi9.
How far away do you sit from your speakers? There's a way to estimate your power output. Your RF's are 98db/w/m @ 1m. For every increase of 3db, you have to double the power. So 98db/1w, 101db/2w, 104db/4w, 107db/8w. That's just a calculation to give you a rough idea. So if you sit 1m away (very unlikely), you're pulling off 107 decibles.
If it sounds good loud, listen loud. Don't let the distortion thing get to your head. Tubes have inferior distortion ratings compared to SS but we both know which one sound better. Distortion will always be there but should be inaudible unless you're really pushing the amp. I tried this with my RT speakers and it distorted bad. Never been able to make the RF-35 distort though. If you don't hear any, rock on!
