I'll be hitting up this deal when they are available in cherry.
This is a very good deal though. -
Just saw the email from Outpost this morning
. My bro got a pair of these for rear surrounds in his HT and they sound pretty nice. A lot better than what he had before. I've got a pair sitting on my desk at work, and they do music duties quite nicely in our office...
Ludicrous gibs! -
Wow, seems like a great deal. I'm looking for a pair of cheap bookshelf speakers in the $100 range for some light duty background music.
At that price I can't nitpick, but what are folks' impressions (and limitations) of these?

I might get a pair to use as surrounds for now.
-
Have used the 10 and the 15, for 40 bucks its a no brainer, the limitation is using them reasonably.

Just ordered them. You won't be disappointed. They're obviously not big enough to use as mains in a system, but they will do background music very well. As I stated before, I have a pair in the office, and they do very well, even in our noisy environment (lots of servers). They would lack low-end in a large room, but for close listening the response is quite good. I enjoy sitting and listening to them in a nearfield environment. Here's my setup with them-

I just bought a pair to replace the satellite speakers I was using for rears in my HT Setup. It'll be a nice reasonable upgrade and I can keep putting away for that DP on the house.
Thanks for the heads up. -
Their limitations? They're $40 speakers that sound like $150 speakers. They aren't the most transparent, not at all, and the bass does not dig down low. I've never used them outside of rear HT situation and as computer speakers, so I can't comment on soundstage, imaging and all that other pretensious audiophile poppycock.
-
Thanks, I don't know I'm going to do with them yet, but they are on the way. Maybe I'll use them in multi-room for the kitchen. I think the wire will cost more than the speakers......let's see .40 cents a foot times 2.......yup.-Ignorance is strength -
-
Been using them in my HT - Front L + R & Surround L + R with the CSi20 (Center) for over a year and I couldn't be happier. The sub takes care of the low notes and the 15's handle everything else. SeamlessAudio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Yea you get them for 40.00 but they dont list for anywhere close to that. I swear there is boat in the harbor with belly full of these things. Its going to be the best 40 buck set of speakers you ever bought.

My 14 yo daughter has a pair she uses in her bedroom 2 channel rig. For $40 you can't go wrong.
-
Just wondering if these are available at that price at Fry's. Or are they an internet only buy at that price from their outpost website.suds, suds and more suds!
-
I have no idea. Give them a call.
-
Anyone know where they ship from? Just trying to get an idea when to expect to see them arrive at the dock. Also...anyone who has bought from them before...are they speedy with getting stuff out the door?
-
Couldn't tell you. When I ordered mine, they were still on sale, but backordered. It took me a month and a half to get them! I nearly forgot I had ordered them...Ludicrous gibs!
-
I got these for 50 bucks awhile ago when Fry's electronics (who is the same company as outpost.com) had these on sale. Every once in awhile Fry's puts some polks or other stuff on sale for a rediculous price, especially the whole R series of polk.
Unfortunately in my area there seems to be some guy who watches for all these sales and then gets there as soon as they open and buys every model they have, then turns around and sells them on eBay. Smart guy, but sucks for me unless I can get there at opening.
But if you go to Circuit City they price match and honor Fry's sale prices. Its always funny to see their faces though at CC, they seem to be a little bit in disbelief and annoyed that they have to price match them so low
That being said I got my whole R series setup this way. Of course the RTi's blow them away but I think I spent 350 total on my R50/R15/CS1 setup and you just cant beat that quality to price ratio.-Stopher

Yeah, I am going to try to nab some RTi70s NIB on the cheap at some point, but I'm just waiting to strike when the iron is hot. I don't have a lot of throw around money right now to put into superficial stuff like that right now. A lot of the CCs have closed around here and we don't have Fry's. Not a lot of options for HT stuff locally, the best place by far is a place called Flanner's Audio & Video, but it's all high end stuff and they don't carry Polk.
I hope I don't need to wait a month for these. -
I highly doubt you'll have to wait a month. That was just because I chose to order them, even though they were already backordered, jsut because I wanted to get the sale price. I think my bro waited like 3 days for his.Ludicrous gibs!
-
As everyone else has said, the R15's are great little speakers. I use a pair for my bedroom and they sound just fine. Of course they don't dig real deep for bass, but that is to be expected. There are better sounding speakers, but nothing near that price range!
-
The ad says "in stock, same day shipping", so I'm hoping that's the case and they will arrive in a few days.
Also, I had to pay tax (live in Ohio). I don't know if that means they will ship from Ohio or if they have retail stores in Ohio.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. Sweet! Mine are due in tomorrow.

I use them for surrounds, but did compare them to some Tannoy Fusions. They held there own. They are just a great value.

Started on r15's for $40.00 a pair and thought i was in heaven...
Of course i was upgrading from my other truly "HI-FI" system which was powered by... Not two but THREE "AA" batteries...!
Then the r30's went on sale and picked up four of them... just watch the shipping price from outpost, if you have a Fry's near by they sometimes run the same deal and you avoid the shippnig expense.
From batteries to drooling over seperates in a month... i think i need help!
Really appreciate what the board offers and thx. to the seniors who have made this board what it is today..."There's a lot of places driving up and down I-95 that smell like ****" F1Nut -

It's never ending. Unlike some things, there really is not "upper limit" in the world of home audio. even people who reach hi-fi holy grail tend to swap out speakers every few months.... not because they are better speakers, but because they like playing with new toys.KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780
