Dang Russ... looking at the 803D? That's some high price gear right there... I aint there yet!

As for me, I'm trying to listen to other speakers in my price range but none have yet to beat what the Logans do for me... atleast the Vantage/Summit 1-2 knockout punch combo. Heard the older Logans and was like, "blah". These newer ones are truly something else. The Vantage totally OUTCLASSED the 918 JMLab again yesterday... the salesperson (a JMLab fan) agreed with me.

I'm going to go visit a high end dealer today and see what else I can get my hands on for some demoing.

When I was there they had 'em hooked up to all Rouge gear except for the Shanling CDP. I think you're gonna like 'em - I did ;)

Alright.. I listened to my demo disc with several high end speakers today - namely the Von Schweikert VR4jr, the 803S, the 804S, and the 803D... by far, I still like the Vantage sound.

Will do another round of demoing tomorrow.

    Joey,

I wound up going with the Gallos. They would match my system, my room, and my listening preferences best out of all the speakers I was looking at. Plus I was in the neighborhood of a store that sells them and was able to get a great deal and got them two days after I ordered them. So far they are amazing speakers.

I've always been intrigued by the Gallo Ref3... I should try and find a dealer who demos them locally.

I think today should consist a visit to Glenn Poor Chicago.

I just didnt like the VR4jr, peersool. Too much on the high end I thought. Overly sibilant in tracks that I thought shouldnt be sibilant (referenced to other speakers) and sounded a little too bright especially when the volume was turned up. Keep in mind that this was being powered by a $3K DK tube/solid state amp and a cambridge audio cdp along with $1K pair of audioquest speaker cables. I still wasnt impressed.

I was hoping to be though. :(

Although I'd probably opt for the 1.6QR's being the better value, Magnepan 3.6's would just slide in under the $$$ cutoff. Strong imaging speakers.

EDIT: I've not heard the Dali's or Von's...

I have never heard any of these but if I was going to blind purchase it would be the B&W's.
I got the demo disc from them and they really seem to appreciate craftmanship and fine quality.
    My vote is for B&W.

The first time I heard the Dali's I thought they sounded ok, the second time they sounded vailed and congested. Both times were on the same gear in the same place, but I had Mike and Troy with me. Maybe it was them.....LOL. Seriously, I had more time to listen the second time and that made me more aware of the short comings.
That was my contempt that was thinly veiled, and the entire place was congested with the ego maniacal attitude of the proprietor. I was just telling Mark about that asshat today. No brag, but he has nothing in there I couldn't pay cash for. I wouldn't buy a bent paperclip from the ****.

I did find the larger Oscar Heil's interesting, and would have loved to hear the Galos Edsel tailfin models we went to check out.

As for the speakers listed, I'd love to have them all (used) and move them when I was over it.

Sadly, that is the most common disease of mom-and-pop high-end place in many cities. There is one literally down the road close-by that I would not spend a dime if my life depend on it. In fact, I drove 250 miles to San Diego county to get my Cremona. His lost!

I got the Logans. In the end, it's sound was the best for me. I wasnt able to hear the Dali, the JMLab 927, or the Onix Ref3 though.... but I was speakerless and I was getting antsy. I took Zero's advice and I looked at other speakers, read about them, and found out what made them tick (so to speak). However, some of that stuff that he recommended were so difficult to audition (like the Apogee or the Totem or the Gallos) that I wasnt able to fit it into my schedule with school and all.

I chose ML because of 3 things:
    1. I like the way it looks.
    2. It sounds disgustingly awesome.
    3. It is tall and easy on the vertical positioning of my ears.

I regret not having the room to fully take advantage of these speakers.

I'll post reviews and pics at a later date.

    Thanks everyone!

Not a bad choice. Out of all the speakers I've heard I wouldn't have been disappointed. You did your research and made the best choice for yourself.

    Enjoy!

+1 for the Vienna Acoustics. Man, I love those speakers. Lush, accurate, detailed, beautifully crafted, and imaging like no other. Really a deal for the money. I like VA more than the entry Sonus Faber's myself, simply because they do so many different types of music so well, and have a great impact for movies too. If you can listen to them, do yourself that favor. You may also want to consider the Beethoven Baby Grand-similar to the Concert Grand but has one less bass driver. CG is 1" silk tweeter, 5.5" mid, and three 7" bass drivers. BG is 1" silk tweeter, 6" mid and two 6" bass drivers. Also a very good speaker, a little less bass, but smaller and easier to place. Plus, the BG would be a little easier to drive, and their $1000 less. If you can hear them, do so as well. Viennas are 4 Ohm, but not too hard to drive. They sounded decent on a Marantz 8500, but like **** on a Denon 3806. Need a good amp with some high current, but that isn't too hard to do for around $1500-$2000. Check out the full line here.

Oh, sorry, didn't see you already bought the Logans. Great choice, I think they're awesome speakers, despite my glowing opinion of the Viennas.
I just bought a Martin Logan Depth, one of the best subs ever in my opinion, next to the Descent. Can't wait to fire it up-pick it up on Tuesday from Magnolia.

Let's put it this way, at the computer, it doesnt sound as good as from the sweetspot. However, it still sounds very good.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a cheap multimedia system for movies/games and letting the ML do music work. However, I already have to much crap in my room and its going to be hard to move out.

The Logans were never meant for nearfield listening, that's why they're toed in towards the sweet spot chair and not the computer chair.

All that for a computer rig?

+1 on getting the amp to the top of the stack. it needs to breath and the other pieces don't need the heat.
