I am dissasembling some M5's that were damaged during shipment overseas and I am thinking about making my own enclosures for them. Anyone have the T/S parameters for the MW 7006 driver? Thanks in advance!

Since it seems that T/S paramters will not be found, I have a question that may be easier to answer. I have two ideas for the 6.5"....one is to build a ported enclosure the same size as the previous one. Second idea is to mount it in-wall (infinite baffle style). I am sure the first one will work, but what about the second?

If you really want to get serious about it, you CAN measure the T/S parameters yourself if you have the appropriate equipment - or send the driver off and have it done.

The easiest thing is to duplicate the original enclosure design, including the exact same port or PR.

Just as some drivers are better suited to acoustic suspension or bass reflex designs, there are certain 'things' about drivers intended for infinite baffle applications. There is a web site dedicated to IB: Google "Cult of the Infinitely Baffled" and check out www.diyaudio.com. Plus, just Google infinite baffle.

That driver's probably not a good candidate for an infinite baffle setup. Ported could be made to work, but you really need the specs to do it right.

Polk won't give the T/S parameter for their drivers. You could find someone to measure it for you, or, it's not terribly hard to do youself. If you've got a computer with a compatible sound card, speaker workshop program (free), a few resistors and alligator clips and maybe a couple of 1/8" stereo phone plugs -maybe $15 worth of stuff from Radio Shack, if you don't have any of it- and you'd be well on your way. Otherwise, where are you located? Know any speaker DIY'ers near you?

My difficulty is location. I am on an Air Force Base (wife in AF) in Bitburg, Germany. This is mostly why I am trying to do some experimentation...need something to do. Just out of curiosity I hooked the mid up to my receiver and played it as loud as I could without distortion which was actually quite loud (guessing 100watts or so). My mains are Polk RT600i's and the mid themselves just sitting in my hands took every bit of power I gave them without bottoming and honestly without distortion so I am thinking they may work in an IB setup since they didn't act weird at all with no enclosure. I am going to try the easy-check and install them in the doors of my car which is already prepped for a 6.5 (actually running a German brand 6.5 currently) and that may give me an idea if IB is the way to go for that speaker. I am also curious about the software that was pointed out to measure the T/S parameters. I have a big assortment of resistors, a multimeter and a pretty decent soundcard. Maybe I can DIY on that. Thanks for the ideas!!

I won't comment any more on the infinite baffle idea, since I really don't know.

If you're interested in this sort of stuff you really should check out speakerworkshop. The program is not very intuitive and the built-in help files aren't much, but there's a nice manual available for download HERE Its capabilities are pretty advanced for a free program, and once you get started playing with it, it'll keep you busy for a long time.

I am going to use it tomorrow and see what happens. I did install the mid in my car adn to be honest it sounds better than the current mid...I may install the other and leave them there...hehe.

DuMaxed it and got the T/S now. Not sure why they won't post them since the T/S only tell you 1/2 the story on a speaker design. I will keep it confidential since Polk believes it needs to be. Simply put though, the mids work very well in either an infinite baffle situation or a large ported enclosure. They have a nice strong suspension and a pretty good motor on them!
