I'm researched out. I have an new Onkyo TX-SR603X and Polk RT5's that I'm gonna use for the front L/R, and I'm about to order R15's & a csi3 from Crutchfield. So now, the sub. I've looked at all that you guys have talked about, & I've narrowed it down to: Polk pws505, hsu vtf-2 mk2, and the Velodyne dls-3750R. My room is 21 x 13, but I may need more for a future larger room. I watch movies & listen to everything from orchestral, to jazz, to prog (Yes, Genesis, etc.). Crutchfield has an return policy w/ no shipping, but they only sell polk & velo, from the choices above. C'mon, help me end this confusion, and make my wife happy that I'm not staring at this laptop anymore!
BTW, I live in the stix, & can't audition anything.

First take away the polk sub from your list of options. You havent given us a budget on what you want to spend, but looking at the options you mentioned I would say you want to stay around $500. A SVS pb-10 would be better than all those options and there are a few on their website for $399 b-stock. If you could swing a little more you could stepup to the 12" tubes for more output. You could also try to find some 2 HSU stf-2's for around $250 each & that would be an awesome & cheap combo. But whatever you do, dont get the polk sub, for HT they arent very good.

The only concerns about the svs pb-10 are that it does not have speaker ins & outs, as well as other controls on the unit. Will that matter? Will I miss the flexibility of those options?
Does the pb-10 play loud when needed? Some reviews say that it goes low, but it doesn't have the impact for HT applications. Anyone have one that can comment on this?
Does svs have a return policy if I don't like the unit? I called, but they're at the CES show.bms

45 day return policy...
The PB10 is superb for HT applications. What I noticed in a large room (too large for the PB10) 3700^3 opening into another 1200, was I didn't feel the chest thump with music. It could have been the room, but the bass was awesome. In a smaller room, maybe you get the thump, IDK.

A friend upgraded from the VTF2.2 to a PB10. The added extension below 25hz made all the difference. Though he did say the Hsu was close in SQ for music. If you are using a receiver with a built in crossover, you don't need line outs.

Keep in mind the following is not meant to offend, just inform. (and I am writing it at work while working on other things, so I appologise if parts are disjointed.)
One word - depth. While for most music, the 505 is a fine sub, for more and more action (and cartoon) movies produced today, there is not only 20hz content, there is sub 20hz content.
The Polk subs, while they have decent volume and impact for music, centers around the bass you can hear. (makes sense if you are trying to sell them in a large big box store you could never hope to pressurize) SVS is all about the bass you can feel, not just hear. The output of the SVS is not a huge leap over the 505 above about 35hz, but below that, it just destroys any of the polk subs.
The polk subs are fine until you start getting in the $450 on up range and then there is just much better out there for the money. If your main goal is music, of course listen to different ones and see what you like - but for movies there is alot of content you are missing under 35hz.
Polk subs are by far their weakest offering to the public. They have just not produced a good sub that produces 20hz content at a decent level. I want a sub that you could hook up to a pair of SRS's, set the SRS's to small and cross them over at 80 hz. and see a benefit. I am not saying it has to be cheap, but it better be good.

bms - The PCi and the PCi + instructions differ - as will the directions for the PB10 (I'd imagine).
Good Luck with the set up - between SVS's instructions and the manual for your receiver you should be able to figure everything out on your own . If you have any problems or questions just give SVS a call (fantastic customer service and support).

Well, I finally got my pb-10, my surrounds (r15's), and my center channel (csi3) wired up, and I ran Onkyo's automated speaker set-up, including the microphone, that comes with the 603x. I was dissapointed. The sub sounded thin & weak. So, I dug into the menus on the receiver, set the front speakers (rt5's) to small, the same with the center & surrounds, set the crossover to 80 (the auto set-up set it to 150), and played the Darla scene from finding Nemo. Oh my God. My entire house was shaking! My wife was actually amazed. When I replayed it for my 9-year old son, he laughed & laughed. I will continue to learn & adjust the manual speaker set-up parameters in my receiver. I guess I should invest in an slp meter, huh.
The moral of the story is bag the auto set-up and learn how to set it up your self. BTW, I can't even imagine the output from the 20-39 or larger subs.
Thanks to all for your help.
