I'm one of the original, old-school folks here. While I don't post much, I still read almost everything daily. I've even had the chance to meet ol-Russ :)
Anyways, today starts what will be a long, drawn out divorce with a custody battle for my son. Been married almost 9 years now. It's hard to believe it's come to this.
My wife is not the most stable person, and I'm having to go into major debt so that my son can have a shot at being in a normal, stable house, with me. Hopefully the courts will see the same thing our last 2 counselors have seen, and will make the rare-exception of granting custody to the father.
Please keep me in your prayers, everyone.

I hope things work out well for both you and your son. By any chance, have you sought the advice of any "Men's Rights" advocacy groups or attorneys? I know they're few and far between, but given the anti-father bias built into the system, any edge you can get is worth pursuing.

    Good luck!

No, I haven't. But I have the best attorney in town, and she's actually one of the few I've ever met who isn't a snake! I lucked out, and got a father-friendly judge, who has a standing policy of 50-50 custody until the divorce is final. Our initial hearing for temporary orders was back in Sept. I haven't said anything till this point because it looked like things may have worked out, but not anymore. The ball has started moving forward, so I've got to go with it.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and prayers. I didn't expect so many responses, seeing that I don't post a lot.

judges seem to handle child custody on a case by case basis. i obtained legal custody of my 2 year old daughter and 14 year old step daughter in 1998. the older of the two later became a straight A student and belonged to the national honor society and earned a scholarship. my youngest is a straight A student who is enrolled in the gifted and talented program in her school. if my wife ever tries to regain custody she would have a tough time convincing a judge that she would do a better job of raising our daughter who is now age 10. good luck. thanks....WCW III

My prayers and best wishes go to you. Unfortunately, custody battles always seem to lean to the mother's side... and when men do get custody of the kids, the trend is that the mother won't be required to pay anywhere NEAR what the father would have to in terms of child support. They always seem to favor the mother for some reason.... even when they're nearly psychotic...

Anyway, best of luck to you, I hope the courts decide to do what's best for your children.

Years ago I went through the same battle, bitter custudy battle over my two daughters that lasted over a year in the court...

I was paying for both lawyers, hers and mine...by the time this ordeal was finally over I was soo broke I could'nt afford to PAY attention...

But,I did not back off an inch, and I was able to raise my children in a normal family atmosphere...with the help of family and friends...

My thoughts are with you and yours, hold your ground and stick to your principals...
