Guns - Whaddya Got?

If someone breaks into my pad, I'm cranking up the Barry Manilow.
If that doesn't stop 'em, I'll pull out my Air Supply cassette... now if I could just find it.
Umm...
Guns are not inherently dangerous. The media and liberals are quick to blame guns (and their manufacturers!) for the actions of dirtballs within society.
More gun laws on top of the hundreds already on the books may make some of you "feel better (or safer)", but would do nothing to stop criminals engaging in illegal activity. It's been illegal to steal, rape and murder for some time now.
Areas where there is little or no gun laws are safer (lower crime rates) than where there is heavy regulation, so using "crime" as an excuse to regulate is just that: an excuse. It makes no intellectual sense.
I would feel safer knowing that some of my fellow citizens are carrying; the more the better--they may save my life someday.
Carrying a weapon dosen't make a person more "dangerous."
It's true: instances of weapons used in crime far outnumber those used for protection. Imagine the drop in crime that would be realized if, say, 50% of homes had an experienced gun owner in them. That would do more to reduce crime than any new laws could.
Driving is a priviledge, not a right; they can regulate it 'til the cows come home for all I care. Gun ownership is a right, not a priviledge. Unless you're a felon, your rights are guaranteed.
Every one of our rights have been bought with a price.
We have fought and continue to fight for our freedoms every day.
We are the most hated land because of our freedom.
All our rights are worth preserving--none more than others; whether you choose to exercise one over another--that is also your right. Just know that the ones you don't exercise are as precious as the ones you do.
Once you lose a right, it is gone.

Well Shack -- in the first incident you broke the first two rules of gun safety.
1) Treat every gun as if loaded.
2) Always check to see if the gun is loaded before handling.
In the second incident, when you noticed the gun was loaded you should have:
1) Informed your ****-hole friend of the fact that the gun was loaded.
2) Asked him to unload it so you could look at it.
You are lucky to be alive.
I have taught my kids that my guns are loaded at all times - even though they are not.
I own a Les Baer Custom Carry .45 with Galco Leather, an American Western Arms (AWA) .45 Colt Peacekeeper with the black powder/ case hardened frame, and a Browning Buckmark .22. I am strictly a handgunner.

I'm personally not interested in guns, as a hobby, or for hunting, or from a collectors standpoint...but I don't have anything against them either...
Not to bring up 9/11, but after that **** went down, and to this day, I am one more news broadcast away from hitting my local sporting goods superstore, and purchasing a pump12 and a couple boxes of shells for each room of the ranch..... Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is breaching my fortress, when and if the time comes...
I'm not scared of the run-of-the-mill American crook, but those Terrorists send chills through me.....

i used to have a sig p228 in satin nickel
a beautiful gun that i couldn't shoot worth a damn
i think it was just the thickness of the grips because of the double stack magazine -- I can't shoot the Beretta 92 either
I think that p220 is probably a pretty good shooter
I would still like to get myself a Browning Hi-PowerDean

I don't know much about hand guns, but this is one bad-**** looking gun! It seems to be the Hollywood gun of choice for this reason.

well I grew up with guns in the house with no problems of any kind.
but I did learn at a very young age. guns are not toys !!! and I was not allowed to handle them with out my parents present. so we had no need for gun safes, locks or locking cases. basicly I grew up with parents take cared about there kids and toke the time to teach them right !!
I presently own
1 9mm ruger p95dc
1 357 mag. S&W revolar 586
1 kimble ap9
1 remington 700 30-06 with bussnell scopes.Wooden Delight Theater

What it a hassle to get your 'CCW' done? What does it cost? Do you actually carry?
I live alone, and keep my .45 on my coffee table during the day while listening to music and watching television. Then at night, I put it in between my butt-cheeks so that I can grab it quickly if by chance I'm burglarized. No, not butt burglarized.
Oh, that's my Glock 36. -
It's real easy to get your CCW here in Las Vegas. it will cost you
about 100 dollars and eight hours of your time for class and range training. your allowed two guns per permit then you renew once a year.:cool:Wooden Delight Theater

Dean - In the first incident you are correct - I never treated guns as toys. I was a very serious shooter. I even helped my uncle do all of his own reloads. Most competition shooters always do their own loads and don't trust the "over the counter" ammo - even in the military. The problem was that I used very poor judgement as young teenage males often do. In this case it didn't cost me anything but a severe lecture and depletion of my life's savings to fix my mother's dresser.
In the second...I have to disagree to some extent. Again I used poor judgement (as many high school freshmen are prone to plus he was only one year older than me) in even going to look at the gun...but remember, I was very comfortable around guns. The minute I saw the tips in the cylinder I told him the gun was loaded and to put it away and immediately turned to leave the room. Had I not the results could have been worse...a point blank shot in the stomach vs a 10 foot shot in the back..who knows? The point is that I never should have been around the gun with no adults present.
I tell my kids if they are ever around a loaded gun...get the hell away... asap!
My point was that there are few kids that are as knowledable about guns, gun safety and the rules as I was. I was not only taught all of the safety stuff but I was an accomplished shooter. If this could happen to me it could happen to anyone that doesn't have their guns under lock and key. You should only allow kids to have access when a responsible adult is around no matter how much the kid has been taught. I wish this had been the case for me. The only positive that came out of this I guess was that I would have definitely been drafted and sent to Vietnam but was 4-F. My lottery number was around #20 in 1970. Who knows what might have happened.
There are still a couple of military men in my family that have guns and my dad still has all of his so I am still around them. But I am very, very careful."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Man, wish I had a digital camera - you guys are posting some great pix.
My favorite rimfire rifle:
Ruger 10/22 with....
Adams and Bennet match grade air gauged 1" stainless fluted barrel with recessed target crown;
Volquartsen 2000 match grade drop-in complete trigger group, with adjustable trigger and overtravel;
Fajen midnight black laminated thumbhole stock with a high Monte Carlo cheekpiece and a flat palm rest;
Tasco 6-24x40 World Class scope with adjustable objective.
This gun shoots a one hole 10-shot group at 100 yards with match grade ammunition, and has accounted for many, many squirrels for the oven.
My favorite handgun:
Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Magnum with a 9.5" barrel and a Simmons 4 MOA red dot. Have crushed deer at close to 100 yards with this hand cannon.
(my semi-autos are SIG-Sauers P229 and P239 - love them too - the 229 has tritium night sights)
My favorite centerfire rifle:
Ruger M77 MKII stainless, laminated, .30-06 with a Leupold Vari-X III 3-10x40, and a Timney trigger set for 3 pounds. Shoots 1" at 100 yards and has taken big game at 287 yards off a Harris bi-pod.
What an amazing response to this thread........wow!

Here ya go Briancs.
My AK-47 is not modified. I bought it exactly like that back in 87' over the counter same day at B&B sales in Westminster, CA. for $187.00. I could take it out of state and sell it for a cool $1,100 very easily right now. Because it is pre-ban, it is climbing in value every day. I almost thought about selling it and my wife said no, keep it. Gotta love a women who loves guns:)
Wanna see some really cool Ak-47 action using my model, go rent Rambo III.

Never fired and only dropped once.
I believe that line was in the movie Full Metal Jacket. I believe they were referring to a M-16 that had been previously used by one of our ARVN (army of the republic of Vietnam) allies. Seems some of the ARVN had a tendency to run away when the fighting started. In their hasty retreat they found the extra weight of their U.S. supplied weapon a burden they could do without.

Lets see I have a few guns.
I still have my very first gun, a single shot .22
Marlin 880ss .22 rifle
Colt Woodsman .22 pistol
Remington 870 12 guage for fowl
Browning BT-99 Limited edition silver (For Trap shooting)
And to many to list when I inherit my fathers collection. (Here is a few)
A few Perazzis trap guns (MX-10 and another)
Krieghoff KX-5 and K-80 (Trap)
An old 30-30 that my great uncle had Winchester I believe.
That is all for now, and yes we shoot a lot of trap! -
Shack.
A good post about your very bad experiences with guns. Should be a must read for all gun owners. Glad you are still around to tell the story. I lost a friend to a stupid hunting accident. 12 ga shotgun, close range, to the head. It was a real mess and very sad. There was no second chance for him. Over and done in a tenth of a second!
Dr Spec.
I have several handguns. Colt autos in .25, .380, .45 army model. Colt revolver official .38 police special 6 inch. Those are all old guns. The .380 is pearl handle & nickel plated. Three .22 autos, High Standard Victor Target, Browning Challenger 1 Match target, regular Browning Challenger 1. A Thompson Contender .22 single shot with a 1 1/2 T/C lobo scope. A smith & wesson .38 special 2 inch. Walther PPK .380 auto.
Four shot guns. Three 20 ga. A Franchi Bresica auto, Browning Citori over/under, Miroku Charles Daley over/under, and a old .410 single shot made by the Bridge Gun Company.
Two rifles. A old Springfield model 87 .22 and a very old muzzleloader made by EC&I Company of Cincinnati.
Also a WWI army issue flare pistol. This thing looks like a shotgun pistol. Wish I was able to post photos to this site as this is a pretty bizzare looking weapon.
I did use the shotguns for quail hunting & some skeet shooting. The pistols are used for target shooting and home security.

Now that is SWEET! Wet all over again:p .. who needs a Sig when you have that? Ok for the AKM I was refering to a variance of the AK in which their are over 100 (I think). Do you know what country yours was manufactured in? Mickael Kalashnikov is to the Russians what John Moses Browning is to us. Ron you may want to check on the AK74. Now made famous by that **** hole Bin Laden. It uses a 5.45 cal cartridge (Russia's answer to the 5.56/.223). In which I as with many others think that is the only "need of improvemnt" for that little rifle. Oh wait your in Cali.. Right? Don't think you can get those there . Sorry had to do that. A pereodical called Shotgun News usually has them. Once again I think. The guy with $40.00 mains and a $700.00 subwoofer.
