Are you still liking your 20-39+, I'm becoming more interested in checking that out everyday.. I got the LFM performing better for me but still auditioning it at this point. There has been some definate grins with this new set up.. -Have a newbie question: what exactly is "extention"? I think I know.. The travel of the driver thus differential pressure in the room, but I'd like to know for sure. Also in the 20-30+ what do you need to have it tuned for in order to get the slam as well as extention..
Thanks to everyone actively participating in this forum!!
Other than the fact that it's a monster (it's completely hidden behind my EC...it still shocks me when I go behind to switch the tuning and I see how big it is), it's a wonderful sounding unit. Articulate, tight and it slams. Not as much, I understand, as the 25-31, but in it's native 20hz tune, very dynamic. It digs down to 18hz flat and clean, no distortion. You can tune it to 16hz by adding a plug and switching an subsonic filter(options 20,16,12). In 16hz tune, you lose a bit of slam, but you get more extention and a flatter FR from 14hz-30hz. Many prefer this for music, but I prefer it in the native tune. 16hz, to me is for movies.
My guess is that it's probably(hopefully) the equal of the LFM 1 for music or very close, but will give you the slam you are looking for. For HT it will rock your world, pressurize your room, yada yada yada...
Extention refers to how low the sub will play. SVS subs with their huge volume have a real advantage in extention. Most 12" subs start rolling off ~ 28hz and without some amp EQ built in don't dig much past 25hz cleanly or with authority. That 7-10hz the SVS puts out down low (some of it subsonic) gives you that great movie theatre experience you sometimes get at the Cineplex.
Would it be a night and day difference? Could be...I haven't heard the Outlaw. Maybe the 25-31+ would fit you better, it's the one that knocks you back in your seat.
