Many years ago I bought a entry level home theater that consisted of a JVC rx-664v receiver with Rt7s and a cs350 up front. Some old rt1's where used in the rear. Remember this is before 5.1.... Anyway, recently, I stole the RT7's for stereo use in the living room. This move put the rt1's in the front with some really cheap Sony's in the rear. Hence, I've been thinking a moderate HT speaker upgrade may be in order.

In typically martial - never forget - bliss. My wife has brought up the ugly disagreement we had many years ago. Yes you got it right, the never ending Polk vs. Bose battle. I kid you not. She will never forget how I refused to buy the Bose whatever's and bought Polk's instead. I wasn't allowed to cop a feel for about month. And that's a big deal when your in your early 30's.

It all boils down to her preferring the Bose sound while I prefer the Polk sound. Or, me liking neutral and her liking - what I consider - muddy. This issue could lead to divorce. Is there any hope? How does one train another to appreciate neutral as opposed to 1960's style mud?

I'm thinking a surround bar may solve this whole issue. And the proverbial "To many speakers in my family room" heard shortly after every vacuuming.

Ideas?

Go to Circuit City. Have them hookup a Bose dual cube to one of their speaker switch boxes. A/B between the Polk speaker and the Bose speaker, and you will emerge victorious. I de-program people on a weekly basis.

I think divorce is the answer. :D

J/K. All joking aside....were you able to do a side-by-side comparison last time? At my previous job I used to play the RM6700 Polks with the PSW303 ($599 w/sub promo) vs. the Bose AM15 ($1299). During one holiday season I sold around 30 of those systems, and I think only once did a customer pick the Bose over the Polk. However this guy came in saying he heard about Bose on Paul Harvey. Sometimes you just can't overcome prejudice. But everyone else was blown away by the greater detail and clarity. Keep in mind that the majority of the time this was a blind comparison. I simply told them to tell me what sounded best. It was pretty fun to see the look on their face when they picked the BETTER, CHEAPER Polks. Of course now-a-days the difference is even greater with the new RM series speakers.

I honestly don't see how anyone without prejudice could possibly pick Bose over Polk.

Good luck. Sounds like you're going to need it. ;)

Just get her to do a comparison of bose and polk's, each of equal value, and ask her afterwards. Maybe bring along a blindfold to keep her from leaning towards bose just because she liked it in the past? :p If she still doesn't fall for the polks I'm not quite sure what to do...

Maybe I could introduce her to my guy...(ha just kidding. He wanted to break up over a subwoofer!) . Hey at least she is open about getting speakers at all. That's a plus. Just print out some of the reviews on Bose online. She can get her learn on before you go shopping.

Here's the answer -- choose neither Polk nor Bose. Both of you go shopping and pick out speakers both of you can live with.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

My wife loved the look of the Bose but when I got the rti4 she loved the sound then the rti8 she loves even more but hates the size. Tell her it's about compromise. She can put a girly decoration near or on them :o

You guys are to funny. I'm in to deep for the Dr. Pepper deal and the original episode happened while A/B'ing Bose and Polk's. She's a lost case, the only reason there isn't any Bose's in the house is price and my stubbornness. Thanks for the many wonderful suggestions. Has anybody ever heard of an ear transplant? My wiff may be a prime candidate.

Tell her Bose is manipulating her ears, women hate that ****. Bose colors the mid ranges to attentuate those frequencies. No highs/No lows, its got to be Bose. Oh, yea great marketing dept. which has captured her mind so now she is senseless.

Go buy Polk speakers and put Bose labels on them for a while, sometimes you have play dirty and a little disinformation never hurt anybody, besides in the end she is going to want you to "scratch her itch" as much as you want to, so the no nooky thing only works so long.

Try Gallo Nucleus speakers. They are smaller then Polks and they come in 8 colors or something crazy like that. Plus they don't sound like complete ****. If she's willing to spend that much money on Bose, show her the Gallos. Nothing like speakers that match the curtains. Good luck.

If my wife ever pulled that stunt there would be that much more room in the house for audio equipment!

Screw it- if she wants Bose let her get Bose. "Whatever you want lemonpie".

Then start re-decorating the living room, demanding this design wallpaper, that shade of carpet, that color tile, and those kitchen appliances.

    Now there's an idea.

I also like the "more room in the house" for audio equitment deal. Just told her last night, hands off the stereo in the living room. I'll do what I want. As for the HT, I really don't care.

Not sure about the bedroom yet. She veto'd the idea of a LCD on the ceiling above the bed complete with in wall Polk's.

She's really going to be pissed when I steal the Velodyne out of the HT for the Stereo.

    To much fun.

Thanks, those things look interesting. Little weird but interesting. I'll have to find somewhere to listen to them.

Read the new post I just made and understand that my wife asked (or was that told me?? ) that I could now sell the SDA's ect.
See my sig file for what she wants me to dump in favor of the new JVC and RM6005's so that there is only one system in the room.

Like that is going to happen.

Boy, I have it good compared to you dale.

Well I just got back from auditioning some Gallo's. Yellow balls to be exact. I was less them impressed. After reading a couple (professional) reviews this morning, I guess I was expecting more.

But, I think I may of found a solution. A denon s-301 whatever in a box. Nice small speakers comes with a subwoofer and sounds great. Nice and simple four piece system, Kids already approved, now for the wiff..

I should qualify the post a bit.
Way back when I bought the 2B's SHE actually said I gotta buy them as they sounded, well you all know. I was concerned that at that time we were looking to buy our first house and the 2b's weren't cheap. Could we afford them at that point of our life? She was more than ok with that.

But, some 13 or 14 years later...

I guess form is now more important to her than function?!?!

Just to clarify her thought further...

I ain't gonna let that happen

My wife and I have an agreement. When we bought our house, certain rooms were dedicated to me, the rest she could have and do what she wanted with. I got the livingroom, my office and the garage. That is all I want anyway. Those rooms are my "Man Cave" and are not to be messed with. It reminds me of a Married with Children episode when AL made the "No MAAM" club and hung the sign on the garage door.

I am in my early 30's but keep hearing about times years ago when the man was the man of the house and ruled the roost. Now we have Martha Stewart coming in and telling us men what to do. Screw it, I am taking it back. Taking it all. SRT in everyroom, especially the bathroom.
    Who is with me?

My girlfriend and I have the same plan, but with no bitterness involved :) She wants to make a room full of books and an art studio, and I want a 2.35:1 constant height screen with all the fixins' :) We are actually both excited about it. Might be a couple years still :P

If you wanted to keep it small you could get something like the mite by totem acoustics and maybe an integrated amp to keep things simple? You don't exactly get the 5.1 fancy stuff but you'll escape the home theater in a box crap. You'd probably want to add something like a HSU STF-2 ($399 new - cheaper at retailers) because the mite's won't really dig too deep.
