Marantz SR-870 vs Denon AVR 2106

Any advice would be appreciated - which is the better unit for 2 channel audio...

I have been very happy with my current home theatre/hifi setup (see below) but my old DVD player can not play DVD-/+R and it is a frustration when I create family movies etc...also the marantz only has 6 channel pass through and no onboard AC3 or DTS decoder, no optical or coaxial inputs.

So I am thinking of buying a Denon AVR-2106 reciever and a Denon DVD-1720 to update the functionality.

Only concern is that the Denon may not be as good musically as the older Marantz (which is pleasing to my ear and seems to be well regarded in other circles as well) - I guess it is a change to facilitate greater features but I want to make sure I choose a new reciever that is able to improve the 2 channel enjoyment as well as the home theatre experience.

Current setup:

Marantz SR-870 reciever
Toshiba DVD player SD-K320
Marantz 5 disk changer CC3000
Speakers - Fronts are RT8's, center is a CS250S & some rare Canon speaker's that I am using as rears (hoping to find some RT3's however)
QED classic speaker cables

Both receivers are very good. Denon offers more features while Marantz maybe the last word in sound quality. Denons sound quality isn't far behind(maybe only in an opnion). I like both companies and don't think you can go wrong here.

I would take a look at the features and connectability and figure out which one suits your needs better. the avr2106 is a very good receiver with buit in 2nd zone. 7.1 able component video switching, discrete power on and off, etc.

Depending on your speakers I would probably go with the Denon
