I vote for USB keys for backups, at least for the smaller data, like bookmarks and such. Easily overwritable, portable, secure....

Yes, it is a separate entity, but it started with Netscape as a financial backer, it didn't just borrow their browser.

In 1998, Netscape made the decision to make the Netscape browser an open-source project. A basic version of the source code was duly released. An informal group called the Mozilla Organization was formed and largely funded by Netscape (the vast majority of programmers working on the code were paid by Netscape) to co-ordinate the development of Netscape 5 (codenamed "Grommit"), which would be based on the Communicator source code. However, the aging Communicator code proved difficult to work with and the decision was taken to scrap Netscape 5 and re-write the source code. The re-written source code was in the form of the Mozilla web browser, which, with a few additions, Netscape 6 was based on.

Yep, you're right. I'm just saying that hackers hit the #1 guy and it's the default browser on everyones PC. Firefox doesn't get attention with many attacks because of this. IE is fine if you're paying attention. Firefox has been safer, but there's still quite a few compatability issues with lazy programers.

Effing Firefox. Its still got my computer acting screwy.

I had to download and reinstall Quick Time again cause it wouldnt work. Certain links wont work either. They come up saying "Mozilla file not found"! WTF!!

And when I use the task manager it still shows a firefox.exe process running. I end it and it pops right back up.

Im searching my computer now for anything named firefox and Ima gonna kill it!

Jesus. Almost sounds like you have a virus cleverly naming itself Firefox.

I think Ive got it whooped now tho. I did a search on anything named Firefox and killed it. Then I downloaded and installed the new version of Quick Time so now its back working.

I also figured out why my links in AIM werent working, its because AIM is trying to open Firefox to pull up the link.

Anybody know how to change this setting? Ive looked in the preferences and cant seem to find it.

OK. earlier i somewhat defended Firefox.. today i go to launch FF and it loads up some weird **** user default messsage. saying i have to choose or make a user.. and can't use the default button.

and it loaded up the default FF web page. losing my start page and all the links and bookmarks too. that's just horseshitty.

i had to do a system restore... which is easy. but damn, that sucks wet dog fur.

Sounds like the program terminated incorrectly, so when you started it again, it couldn't use the default profile, which was already in use. So it used some alternate profile, which doesn't include any of your info (bookmarks, homepage, etc). Did you reboot?

Beat me to it, I have never had any problems with firefox either. I'd say stick with it, you guys don't bolt from Windows to linux after a crash, right? :p

You can just save them on your computer, no need to write them onto a cd unless you really want things safe (in case your computer messes up and has to be reformatted).

Backing up your bookmarks is really quite easy too. All you have to do is go to bookmarks --> manage bookmarks. Then from there you go to file --> export, and save it as a simple html file somewhere on your computer.

I personally would take my chances again with firefox or move to something different like opera then have to go back to internet explorer. **** deal with the messed up ff but almost all programs mess up at some times.

As for the few **** sites - you have to be very careful as most contain viruses and spyware. Make sure to run ad-aware and spybot S&D often.

Why would someone who has never had an issue with IE care about Firefox? Why do you folks have so many issues? Is it because it is Microsoft? Just wondering....don't get your pants in a bunch.

I choose to stick with firefox despite any issues that may arise simply because it's nicer to use (in my case). I love the tab feature (you get to open new windows within the same window...) which makes things like browsing email and threads much easier and uncluttered if you're also trying to do other things with your computer.

I never really had an issue with IE but once I made the switch to ff the only reason I've gone back to ie a couple times was to run things that weren't supported in ff.

Just because you had no issues with IE doesn't mean there's not something better out there. There's a lot of features to Firefox that IE will never have,a nd there's the ability to change nearly anything with the extensions. It's a fully customizable experience.
