So long to Firefox

Ive had it with this stupid program and I just wiped it off my computer!!

A while back I lost over half my bookmarks which was a pisser but today as I signed on to NFL.com to get the score of the Colts game it just quit working. So I closed the program and tried to re-open it. It said there was an error with my profile and I had to start another one. So I did and it opened but ALL my settings and over 100 bookmarks were gone. So I decided to delete the new profile and re-open it. Well it would re-open. I couldnt get Firefox to run no matter what I tried.

So I restarted my computer and whenever I clicked on the Firefox icon or tried anything to open it it said a previous program was running or some such crap! I tried every trick I knew to get it to work and it just wouldnt. I used the task manager but couldnt find ANY firefox programs or processes running anywhere. I even retored my computer to a couple days ago and it still didnt work!

So after more than an hour of dealing with it and my blood pressure rising I decided to kill it! So its gone and Im back using IE forever now.

The thing that pisses me off the most is losing all my bookmarks, AGAIN! I had a ton that I used often and so now I have to go find them all again!

F**K Firefox!

Firefox, while it has its moment, its not the greatest program ever that many will have you believe. A while back the google toolbar installed itself into my IE. I suspect that Firefox may have had something to do with it. That or my lousy ISP.

Yeah, can't say I've ever had a problem, but had a i lost my bookmarks I would probably be doing the same thing you are.

Good luck with IE. I'd rather browse with a chisel and stone, but...

I have always prefered Forefox though in earlier versions, the same thing happened to me. Now, I don't use different profiles, just this one. I too have lost bookmarks before. The easiest to prevent this is to back up your bookmarks periodically so if the program looses thwm, you can get them back.

I d on't understand how you guys lose bookmarks. What on Earth could you possibly be doing?? I've had the same bookmarks for the 4 years I've been using Firefox (back when it was Phoenix or something like that).

No problems at all here, either. With all software installation it's nearly always user error when you lose stuff or add little extra things you don't want. Always do 'Custom Install' rather than 'Typical'.

I actually had to reinstall FF one time for some reason and I did lose all my bookmarks.

I kind of saw it as a good thing as my bookmarks were getting over-crowded with all kinds of junk...

But it would take something amazing to get me to go back to IE...

I've always used IE with never once an issue. I tried Opera and Firefox both once and didn't really care for either one...

I have to admit the way Firefox handles the bookmarks does leave a bit to be desired, been there done that (lost a BUNCH of BMarks). I always try and save that little html file now, every so often...lol

The first time around I just opened up Firefox and went looking for the USACi webiste and it was gone. Then I realized over half my bookmarks were gone, overnight.

This time I didnt just lose my bookmarks but my entire profile! It said the default profile was already in use and Id need to close that program (there wasnt one open) or restart, so I restarted. Same thing. So I created a new profile and then it set me up like I had just installed Firefox. No bookmarks, no previous settings nothing! So I closed it and tried to locate my previous profile. I found the default and new one in the profile manager folder and deleted the new one. After that, Firefox wouldnt load at all!!! I even tried to download a new version on IE and install it and it still wouldnt work. I restarted twice and even restored and nothing.

My only complaints with IE were the pop-ups really. Other than that I had no issues with it so it wont be the end of the world having to switch back just a major pain in the **** having to re-do all my bookmarks.

You should try the new AOL web browser. It works really good and it's a really advanced web browser compared to the internet explorer. I tried firefox one time i never did like it so i quit using it. I always tried to figure why everyone thought it was so great.

I have been a big fan of Opera for a long time and if you don't already know Opera is now free! It only takes a little while to learn how to best use Opera and it comes with everything you need..there are no extensions that have to be hunted down like Firefox! It was the shiznit when I first started using it. I couldnt open IE for more than 5 minutes without being bombarded with pop ups and spy ware. In the year + I used Firefox I dont think I ever had a pop up. But so far today I havent had any pop ups with IE so hopefully it will be ok.

The biggest **** I have is I use the scroll wheel on the mouse and on Firefox it scrolled in increments instead of a constant roll and the constant roll messes with my eyes.

IE is ok as long as you have System Pack 2 installed, otherwise you're asking for serious trouble. Firefox can give grief in one instance that I have found. That is using a version that has expired. Once that happens when you install a new version bookmarks can cause all sorts of grief.

You won't have anymore pop ups on internet explorer if you have upgraded your windows operating system to service pack 2. In service pack 2 they have the security center built in and it has pop up blocker built in the operating system now.

Security with IE is weak, but it's also the hardest hit. SP2 helped, but it's still got a hell of a lot of problems. It's all got to do with your browsing habits and what you decide to click on, etc. I would just rather see IE get a rework, but it's not MiSofts fault exactly, they're just more prone to attacks and exploits than the other browsers.

I've had success with both and don't think that MiSoft is the devil. :)

Go to the control panel. Then go down to performance and maintenance. Go in there and click on system down at the bottom and it will tell you everything about your system.

Thats cool. 90% of my browsing is here and a couple car audio forums.....and a few choice **** sites and I run Adware and Sybot regularly.

You cannot follow up these small internet companies that come out with browser's and stuff. It all sounds good but when it all comes down to it nobody can beat microsoft at what they do and thats make software. Everyone ends right back where they started at that's the one and only internet explorer.

Small internet companies? Mozilla is an offshoot of Netscape. Netscape is not small. I started with mozilla back when firefox was known as firebird. Besides a few hitches in the beta version, I LOVE firefox, popups only occur on an occasional site and even then they are few and easily controlled. i have not incurred a single virus while running firefox-I had two with IE. Nobody can beat Microsoft because they are the largest, not the best

Mac, although to late. that's why it's a good idea to back **** up.

either way. maybe it's more of a MS compatiblity problem more then Firefox itself.. i'm not defending FF at all. but, anything is possible with computers these days. I haven't run into to many problems with FF. It's not better or worse for problems than any other software i'm running.

Every single piece of software i run. has it's bad moments.

loosing bookmarks does indeed suck big weenies. ;)

Its a laziness thing. Backing up would mean Id have to reach the 18" to my CD's and download em.

Or worse yet, save them to a seperate file on my hard drive!

Thats more work than its worth! :D

Firefox uses the Netscape engine/template, it has nothing to do with Netscape as a company.

You can just save them on your computer, no need to write them onto a cd unless you really want things safe (in case your computer messes up and has to be reformatted).

Backing up your bookmarks is really quite easy too. All you have to do is go to bookmarks --> manage bookmarks. Then from there you go to file --> export, and save it as a simple html file somewhere on your computer.

I personally would take my chances again with firefox or move to something different like opera then have to go back to internet explorer. **** deal with the messed up ff but almost all programs mess up at some times.

As for the few **** sites - you have to be very careful as most contain viruses and spyware. Make sure to run ad-aware and spybot S&D often.

The best way to back things up these days is online storage. This way you don't have to worry about keeping up with cd's. Plus you can access your data from any computer no matter where your at.
