Hi all i just purchased a new denon 4806 avr. i currently have the denon dvd 2900. has anyone changed from the denon 2900 to the 3910. i would like to try out the denon link feature and hdmi. is there any noticible audio or video quality between the two. the 2900 has silicon image dvdo video processing and the 3910 has faroudja processing. the chances are if i sold my 2900 i would only get about half of what i spent for it if that. and i dont have any leads yet on a good price for the 3910. I dont have any issues with my 2900 and i am not sure what issues the 3910 have as far as for example the croma bug type problems. looking for imput as to the pros and cons between the two.

The 3910 in my opnion is superior in every way to the older 2900. Being a good DVD player, the 3910 is a few levels ahead. The video quality with HDMI is incredible. The audio is also all that.
The 2910 is another choice if money is an issue. you don't loose much when stepping down. But the 3910 is worth the extra cost. Hell I would own either one of them and be completely happy.
The avr4806 is a very good receiver. Don't try to HDMI switch cable or Dss. It will not pass. There is a software clitch. DVD will pass but why bother, just send HDMi straight to the tv. It's not the receiver thats bad, it's the sources. Motorola is suppost to have fixed the Hdmi Issue with the new 6412 series II DVR HDMI cablebox. I have not had the chance to Install a avr4806 with the new cablebox to test this.
Good luck man,

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
The newest disturbing trend. Yea, its has that Mr. Consumer, oh, does not really work, well, it has a software problem, we will fix in the NEXT model. WTF??
The 2900 is an award winning (stereophile) multi-channel source no slouch and whipped the competion badly at its price point. I am not much of a videophile and like the 2900 very much. I would hold off until the whole blue-ray/HD thing gets resolved, the players get the bugs out etc.. I saw and heard the 3910 doing dvd surround at PF06 it was excellent, picture looked great but like I say, I kind of dont care about that after a certain point.
Dan was the first guy at CP to help me and tell me things, if he feels the 3910 is heads over the 2900 I would take his advice seriously, he never once steered me wrong.

This speaks volumes and I have to agree. I could not be more satisfied with my 2900 in all respects and it will take many new technologies before I buy another multi channel unit.

Thanks for the imput guys i think i am going to hold out for a little while and see what the price does on the 3910. also so i can see what kind of software problems they have or develop over time. If my tv had hdmi or dvi connections i think i would shop around and step up to the 3910. right now i am happy with the 2900 but the upgrade bug is starting to bite. Thanks for the imput and Merry christmas to you and your families.
