since this is my first post here, hello to all. I do not have alot of experience or technical knowledge compared to those in these posts. You guys are sick.

I have the full theater system, and my problem is when I use only two pair for music. They sound terrible. I do know that my room is very live, and needs some changes.

The system is powered by the following:

Fronts: 2 parasound HCA 1500A's, in mono. THX gain to full.

Center: Parasound HCA 1500A

Rear: Parasound RCA 1000A

The system is controlled by a Parasound AVC2500.

Here's my probem(s), and I'm sorry if this is a long post. The AVC has it's own calibration. When I run the test, evverything is fine, but the test will not complete due to the "subwoofers out of range." Now keep in mind, I am an idiot and don't know how to set the phase, variable phase, or frequency adjustments. I really don't know what they do. I have tried to set them by ear, but really can't hear any difference. I tried reversing the polarity, but again, that made no difference, at least to me.

WHen playing music, the Sats sound harsh and overpowering to the bass. I have turned down the gain adjustments on the back of the amps, but it still doesn't sound great, at least not as great as all the hype about this system. Parasound says to leave these gain adj on full.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Jim

Turn down the gain a little. If the room is lively, the AVC is probably picking up alot of reflection and compensating. Try to treat the room a little, don't go overboard, just try to cut down some.

You should not have to mess with the phase. What does the program read to. Maybe you have the low freq. cut off too low.

Does the AVC have a remote mike? If not, it is trying to cal from the wrong spot anyway. pick up a SPL meter and cal from the sweet spot.

You need an SPL meter....a Radio Shack trip is in your future.

I would suggest turning the gain to zero/off on all the amplifiers and calibrating with the AVC at 85db across the board. It shouldn't really take too long and it's to see if the tonality changes with a non-THX setup.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The AVC does have a mike which I have used. I recalibrated yesterday, and still had the problem where the subs were "out of range." However, it does sound much better. I am starting to see that this room is way too live. Tile floor, stone fireplace, and a wall of Cathedral glass. On the plus side, the house will be sold.

    Thanks for all the help.
