McNabb is "not that good."

PHILADELPHIA (Dec. 14) - Donovan McNabb is still taking shots - the latest from an NAACP leader who criticized the quarterback's leadership skills and said he "played the race card" in explaining why he no longer runs the ball.

J. Whyatt Mondesire, who publishes a newspaper for blacks and is the president of the Philadelphia branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, recently wrote that the Eagles' star quarterback failed as a team leader and choked in the Super Bowl.

McNabb responded sharply, but Mondesire hasn't changed his stance.

"He doesn't get it," Mondesire said Wednesday. "If he got it, I wouldn't have written the article."

Mondesire, publisher of the Philadelphia Sunday Sun, criticized McNabb in a column in his newspaper on Dec. 4.

He wrote that McNabb's tendency to run the ball early in his career "not only confused defenses, it also thrilled Eagles fans," but that abandoning that element "by claiming that 'everybody expects black quarterbacks to scramble' not only amounts to a breach of faith but also belittles the real struggles of black athletes who've had to overcome real racial stereotypcasting in addition to downright segregation."

Mondesire said the bottom line is that McNabb is "not that good."

"In essence Donny, you are mediocre at best," Mondesire wrote. "And trying to disguise that fact behind some concocted reasoning that African American quarterbacks who can scramble and who can run the ball are somehow lesser field generals ... is more insulting off the field than on."

And they canned Rush for saying the same thing........

I find in stunning that he doesnt run the ball for that reason. I never knew that. it disgusts me, Football means winning using everything your body has, including all skill. If you dont use your talent to win the game, your not a football player, plain and simple.

I'm not gonna run because of the stereotype? selfish ****, I thought Terrel Owens was bad, I think this is worse. Am I coming out of left field here?

I hate Terrel, but at least he gave his all on the field

And take Dante Cullpepper with him!!!
Don't get me wrong folks, I could care less what color he is. He is just an overratted QB like McNabb. The only weapon he has is being able to throw the ball 70yds and having a reciever fast enough to get under it. Now that Moss is in Oakland, those days are over and thank God (for us Viking fans) that Brad Johnson was able to bring some stability to that offense.

This reminds me of a funny story that happened to me about 6 years ago.

My wife and I were in the Mall Of America Christmas shopping. I handed the cashier my credit card...she makes a comment how my name is Brad Johnson as well. (heard it a million times around here...) anyway, as I was leaving the store, two kids approched me to sign an autograph thinking I was Brad Johnson the quarterback.
To make a long story short...beware of any Viking caps and a Wilson football on ebay that has a Brad Johnson autograph!!

Ever since McNabb got his mega-milion dollar contract, he's been a puss. He got what he wanted, a huge signing bonus, that was just recently surpassed by Manning's.

He was a fairly humble guy before the signing and now is just a typical arrogant, ****
pro athlete that thinks he's owed something.

That someone, IIRC, said that McNabb was overrated because of his race (people wanted to see a black QB succeed).

As a sidenote, I don't see why the soup company in todays world wants a fat lady advertising their food.

He didn't say that HE thought McNabb was overrated because he was black. He said that the news media had an interest in seeing a black quarterback succeed. If he named a white reciever and said the same thing we wouldn't even be talking about it. It's amazing who is and who isn't allowed to have an opinion.

My addition in bold. What got Limby in trouble was not his opinion that McNabb isn't "that good". I'm not commenting if he deserved it or not, just saying it wasn't for saying what this other guy did.

Dude, what got Limbaugh in trouble was the same news media he was barking about. After he made his comment nobody batted an eyelash. It was actually 4 days later until someone made a stink. Interesting the black man on set with him that day didn't argue with him on the spot, eh? That's because it wasn't an issue, he wasn't saying anything so OUTRAGEOUS.

Like I said, if he said the same exact thing about a white guy nobody would have said a damn thing about it. It amazes me that the vast majority of the black community keeps letting itself get used by these people.

It's not? Rush Limbaugh can't comment on racial stereotyping in football? Interesting. Like I said, nobody batted an eye until 4 days after the comment was made. Sounds rather manufactured to me, but hey, that's because it was...If anything he should have known better than to take a job where he has a target on his head from day one.

Yes it is. I'm not sure if you're going to keep making the same comment over and over again, but he was hired to make commentary on football games and their players. Issues like this have been discussed before on sports television.

Limbaugh was also working for ABC at the time, which is owned by DISNEY... they don't tend to have ANY kind of tolerance in that company.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion, and so am I.

Yes, McNabb is overrated but so are many other QB's in NFL, both black and white. All the superstar QB's seem to be white (no, Vick isn't one) and to say that isn't racist as you don't see any white superstar RB's either.

It's not really a matter of opinion. You kept saying it isn't apples to apples. As if just because Rush Limbaugh said it somehow it's different than if Michael Irvin had said it. It's the same thing. They're both hired to do the same thing, and that's comment on sports issues. Really don't see why this is so hard to understand.

Rush wasnt talking about McNabb at all, he was talking about the sports media. They are pulling for a black QB to do well because there hasnt been one to achieve the success of a Montana or a Bradshaw yet so they were pulling for McNabb to do well and cutting him a little slack in their reporting. Thats not a horrible thing in and of itself, I would like to see a black QB do well too but Ive got my hopes on Vick (since McNair seems to have let me down). The point was that when somebody actually points it out he's trashed and labled all the usualy names (racist, biggot, homophobe) and thats whats a crock. Its gotten to the point where you cant have any kind of discuccion anymore. If you dare criticize a black person, youre labled a racist. If you dare criticize illegal immigrants, youre a racist. A person that hates another race and would have them wiped off the face of the earth all while buring a cross and wearing a bed sheet over his head is a racist. A person pointing out a ho-hum QB being heralded as the next Montana is not.

I have a question..... Why does it matter if he is black or not? Why do you or anyone else want to see a black QB do well?? Does it really matter what color he is? Wouldn't it be cool to see your favorite teams QB do well dispite the color he is?

All the years I have wathed football, I never once wanted a player to do well due to his skin color. Personally I find that sad. I'm into the game and the great player who play it.

In Phila they had many QB's and not many of them have been great. McNabb has been playing like ****, due to injury or not, he has sucked all this year and I felt it started in the Super Bowl. That last drive was terrible. Sad and lack of effort. He was walking up to the line like they had mad time on the clock.

the Eagles are in bad shape this year. McNabb has alot to do with as well as losing many good players. TO was huge and it was all down hill from there.

It's not but that got him into trouble (undeserving or not). This other guy was commenting on something McNabb had said himself and to him it was an excuse (and to me too). If that is true, that McNabb had said it, then it was not him that brought up the race it was McNabb himself.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/12/15/mcnabb.ap/index.html

"If you talk about my play, that's one thing," McNabb said. "When you talk about my race, now we've got problems."

Well Donovan, he was talking about your play, not about your race. If you have said what he claims you have then you need to take a look in the mirror.
