Home Made Cables

I'm still getting my learn on about audio and video interconnects, so play like I don't know anything about cables at all(which is only part true).

I've read this thread about RG59 vs RG6, but I'd like to know a little more.

What types of cables are used for the following application

Coax: RG59-CATV & OTA RG6-C CATV, OTA, DBS
What other uses do these have?

Component Video:

Digital Coax:

S-Video:

Composite:

Audio Interconnects:

I will be using this compression coax tool, but I will learn to solder if this won't work for all applications.

As always, thanks for the help.

You can use rg59sd or rg6 for all listed. Depending on the level of system your installing, rg6 works fine. I don't like it for analog interconnects uness your using a multichannel multiroom amp powering inwall background speakers that no one is going to cridically listen it.Then I see no reason not to make custom length cables for this.

Ialso perfer rg59sd for video feeds stranded. it's easier to work with and from my experience I haven't found other cables at given lengths to perform better for video.

rg59sd also makes for killer custom digital coax cables.

    Dan,

Thanks, as always, for the help. What type of RG6 should I go with? I see it with a /U and without. Also, what type of shielding would be best? I'm going with the Parts Express right now, and I see aluminum tape/braid and Quad Shield.

BTW, I couldn't ever find the coax tool you referenced, so I thought I would try the one from PE out for now. I can always switch next year.
