Polk LSi9 or Polk RT3000p?
Hey guys i am new to the forums here, and i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. First of all i will give you what my current system is.
B&K Reference 10 preamp
Nikko Alpha 230 amp
Polk LSi9
PSW 650
Now that you know what i am currently using here is my question my dad is selling his Rosewood RT3000p which i have loved since he has bought them but now i am not so sure they are that much better than the setup i have now. Basically i am asking what would you guys go with if you are in my situation. Also just so you know his RT3000p's have about 1200 hours on them so they are not that old and are in pristine condition. I am basically just not sure what to do here. If you guys could give me some advice that would be great.
P.S. This is for a stereo setup only. Basically i listen to music on it mainly. Some movies.

Hi Crazyeyes, welcome to the club!
While the RT3000p would probably be outstanding in a HT situation, you have the perfect speakers to handle music!
So you should keep what you have.
You could also hook up your speakers to his system & do a side by side comparison, that way you would really know for sure.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
I have done that once and i like them both they both have a different sound to them but they sound as if they are in the same league. The one thing i love about his over mine is the subs. I think the subs in the RT3000p system are just so much nicer than my PSW650. I think i may end up buying his speakers and selling my LSi9's and the PSW650. It is just something that i have wanted forever was a pair of RT3000p's and now they have become available and affordable i mean i could always buy another pair of LSi9's but RT3000p's in Rosewood in this condition are not often found. So i think i am leaning towards the RT3000p's. I was just asking for some input on it and i will see what other people say. Thanks for the response.

I would get the 3000's and hook them up to your system to see what you think.
I personally like mine but I am 80% movies and music is just for background sound.Skynut

Lsi series all the way. the rt3000p's where good in there day, and to some still goood today for everything. I felt they where the best sounding Rt series then. I would not give up any Lsi speaker to own them. No way.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Given the choice, I'd take the 3000's over the 9/650 combo.
Critical listening? The 9's are certainly more 'flat' and true to the recording - but if you want to have FUN listening, the 3000's are where it's at in my opinion. I dig the LSi series, but everytime I listen to them, I'm pretty much done after 45 minutes or so. They just lack emotion for me, they don't 'draw me in' like some other Polks do.
The 3000's? Sit down, fire them up, next thing you know 2-3 hours have gone by. Kind of like a typical SDA listening session.

Hey guys thanks for the replies i am still unsure of what to do. I forgot to mention if i were to stick with my current setup i could upgrade my amp to either a B&K 200.2 or B&K M-200 monoblocks. I am not sure if that changes anyones oppinion. So if i were thinking that way which would be a better setup for me. Also I mainly listen to Rock, Punk, Emo, and stuff like that. Older Pink Floyd, and Styx are in there as well.

Hey guys i was thinking of something else as well i could upgrade to the LSi15's what do you guys think about that as an idea as welll?

So long as you have enough of a separate amp to make them sing, GO FOR IT!!!!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

do you think that nikko alpha 230 amp would be good enough?

if you really like the sub section of the 3000's over the psw650, that might mean a more musical subwoofer might be in order if you keep your ninesLiving Room 2 Channel -

Well if i were to go with LSi15's now would i even need a sub or would i be better off getting a nicer amp to drive them with and have enough bass for my music right out of the speakers?
-
I havent heard the 9 or the 15, just the 7. I've heard some say that they like the 9's with a nice musical sub better than the 15. see if anyone else chimes in regarding this. Hate to see you spend alot of cheddar for little or no gain.
If I were in your position. I would sell the 650 and get a sub more suited for music. Like the HSU STF2 or 3. the Adire Audio Rava, or the 10" titanic kit from parts express. all known to be very musical subs. I have personal experience with the HSU STF-2, and it blends like a dream with any speaker I mate it with....easily.Living Room 2 Channel -

But the 15s with a musical sub might even be better :-)

As suggested right away, you really need to audition Dad's 3000's beside your 9's and make your own decision. So give him a copy of your driver's license and a major credit card imprint and haul themto your room.More later,

Hi and welcome to the forums.
I prefer to use my 3000s for HT and background music, not for critcle or serious 2ch music enjoyment. But that's just me and my default choice for 2ch use doesn't fall upon a pair of LSi speakers so....
...ever thought about holding onto your money and picking up a good pair of say....SDAs? -
Oooops!
By the look of your other post I reponded to you already made a move on the 3000s. No? -
No i have not moved on the RT3000p's yet but am planning to unless someone else throws out some other suggestions worth thinking about. No i haven't thought about SDA's.
-
crazyeyes wrote:No i haven't thought about SDA's.
Well then, by all means........................................................... please do! -
You think SDA's will sound better than my dads RT3000ps and my LSi9's?
I have never heard them and hate to buy somehting that i have never heard before. So unless there is someone in the area with a pair willing to let me listen i don't know about it. -
crazyeyes wrote:You think SDA's will sound better than my dads RT3000ps and my LSi9's?
Well, I don't own the 9s and wouldn't replace a pair of SDAs with them. Does that make them a poor speaker or poor choice? Heck no. My personal preference. Better than the 3000s? I do own them and the answer is yes, most of the SDAs are better to me. Again, my personal preference.
Do some reading on the SDAs in here and see what people think of them. -
The 3000's aren't in the same league as the SDA's when it come to 2 channel. Apples and oranges...
The 3000's are good speakers, don't be mistaken. But the SDA's soundstage is in a league all their own.
