Upgrading to IDMax over Eclipse Alluminum worth it?

Hey guys, I was wondering what your take on this switch is. I have a 8112 svc eclipse & have noticed that new IDMax's on ebay arent that much & was wanting to know if there would be a decent increase in sq. My current sub is great but I would like it a tad louder since switching to a new/bigger car has decreased its performance just a little. I have a PPI 2 channel bridged to 500w & am looking for a new sub amp so I can use the PPI for components up front.

humm... pbd, i think, is pretty familiar with image dynamics... from what i know (and i've never heard the idmax, so this is second-hand) the idmax is slightly more spl than sq, and the aluminium eclipses i've heard are tighter than all get-out, so i'd say stick with what you have... if you have the cash to spare, perhaps you can try out the idmax? and send it back if you don't like it?

Image Dynamics is all about the SQ... the SPL is just a by product. I have heard two cars with IDMax's and absolutely loved them. Then again, I have heard many cars with Eclipse Aluminum and Titanium drivers and wouldn't give $100 for one...

no. I've never heard one I have mildly liked. I don't like the sound of resonating metal... but that's me.

Yea, my amp is rated at 500w rms but I dont think that will be enough to do it justice from what I have read. Ive been out of the car audio amp scene for a while & all the brands that used to be high end are now just "ok"(PPI, Orion), can anyone recomend a good 1000w or so sub amp thats not too much & I will probably buy off ebay, so no retail.

The IDMAX will wang off ~500w.
10" Pioneer TS-255C, ported tuned to 38hz with 25in^2 port area.

    Run off Profile CA1200 (900w@4ohm)
this would create a "sledge hammer" effect and a terrible localization of bass. lets say we downfire the sub... not only would it be localized, but the reflected bass waves would shoot right back at the cone and probably cancel out a lot of the sound... whereas the conical "normal" sub would allow these waves to bounce all around.

OK, you wanna be an asshat, I'll play along.

You made a rather obtuse statement about an entire company's line of amplifiers and I wanna know how you came to that conclusion. Did you test out the amps yourself? Did you read some silly review somewhere that also offered no supporting evidence? Is this more uninformed tripe from your cocky boss that you are just regurgitating for us all?

You made the statement and expect us to take you at your word for it. Corroborate your statement. How are "some of em are a little overrated"?

yay, playtime with john. my favorite thing to do.

first off, i never made any statement about their entire line. If we want to play "mr internet meanie" like the title youve given yourself and mention everytime you want to play internet big man, you might want to at least get your facts straight.

Ive dealt with 3 HiFonics amps that ive been able to test out myself. One was sent back to the manufacture because it has internal noise problems. The other is in my friends truck powering his polk momo 2104, the other is in another friends car powering his l5s. Not one of them puts out their rated power.

There are several reviews across severals forums, some even come with graphs about their power ratings. All have failed to meet their power requirements.

Look dipshit, you dont know my boss, you have no idea wtf youre talking about when you talk about him. He currently stands 3rd in the world in spl in 0-1000 prostock for usaci. He used to compete in SQ...I have no idea why I'm even telling you this. You dont listen, you just make stupid, unintelligent, remarks about everyone you disagree with.

Hardly anyone on this forum likes you. I'm sure you know but I wanted to point it out. Most everyone, including the freakin moderators dont like you. You dont give constructive criticism, you just give criticism. In all honesty, the forum would be a better place without you. I used to stick up with you, but I've slowly began to see that you ARE an ****, or how you dubbed yourself "the big internet meanie."

If I was at the last Polk fest, I wouldve ignored your ****.

And lastoff, I dont have the links saved to show you, so google hifonics bench test or something of the sort and find it for yourself. Im not sure about the zeus line, ive only dealt with the brutus line, but i assure you, they are overrated.

boo freakin hoo. All you had to do was answer the question the first time. I haven't dealt with anything from the Brutus line, only the Zeus, Warrior and Nemesis lines and none of them gave me any such problems. If anything, they were putting out more than thier rated power levels.

All I asked the first time was how. Simple, two word request. "How so?" All I wanted to know was where your info came from. You ignored me the first time and then copped an attitude when I asked a second time. So I gave you your **** right back. So go cry me a freakin' river sweetheart 'cause you'll get no sympathy from me.

Shut up and go re-read my post. I never said I thought reviews were ****, I never said his boss was full of **** and I never said I didn't trust Cody's word. Manufacturers issuing documents showing under-rated specs is kind of teh exact opposite to what is being reffered to.

What I did say was that I wanted to know where his info came from. I wanted to know more. I got ignored the first time, asked a second tiem and got **** for it. So I did what i do best and irritated him. Do I think reviews are BS? No, I only asked if he got his info from a review that was BS, they are out there, we have all seen them. Did I say his boss was full of BS? No, I said he was cocky, doesn't mean he's full of BS. Did I say I didn't trust Cody? No, I didn't. I have lost all respect for him but I never said I didn't trust him. I just asked him to elaborate on his statement.

What does the term "overrated" usually mean when we are speaking about amplifiers?

That's like not comprehending when a smoking hot woman says "Wanna ****?"

I'm sure if he said, "MTX amps are always underrated." You would have understood his comment.

I never ignored you. I thought you meant how so as in the same way neo asked how so. I didnt give you attitude, I gave you the truth, then you got **** and called me an asshat.

And you basically did say my boss is full of b.s. Uninformed tripe and **** are just about an exact translation. But you dont know him yet you go on spouting off like you know something when you dont.

And I'm sorry to dishearten your spirit, but you do not get under my skin, I just really dont like you. In fact, the first time I remember seeing you on here I didn't like you. Then you began to show your knowledge and I started to tolerate you. But I've finally come to terms that youre disgustingly ignorant and it makes me laugh. Because no one likes you yet you still come back and post. You're like the annoying kid in high school that thought he was cool and wondered why when everyone would look for an excuse to leave as soon as he came around. Just go away and make the forum a better place.

Youve lost all respect for me? Damn, I mean that hurts. Trust me, I, along with many other members have lost it for you a long time ago. I have got a couple PMs today referring to this thread both referring to how much of a jackass you are. Pretty funny when your 'mass hated' by the forum.

Do you really think I'd hang around if I cared about what you or any other person here thought? You keep telling me I'm wrong, ignorant, full of crap and so on. If I'm so full of it, how come you, in your infinite wisdom, have never sought to show me or anyone else how wrong I am?

I hang around because it's so much fun to see how so many people will say they don't care and I don't bug them yet they always seem to have something to say about me. It's funny, everyone has alot to say behind my back but none of them will say anything to my face. Hell, even just to me.

Why do I think so poorly of your boss? Because of what you have posted about him. It's almost like you bought his sales pitch and are inacapable of formulating a thought for yourself. Keep humping his leg and let him keep **** you over with commission status and the work you do. He obviously has everything all figured out and well, he owns his own business so there's no way in hell anyone knows more than he does. Oh, that's also why I think so poorly of you too.

Swerve, you have sat there in your chair behind your computer and posted on this forum that you consider yourself stupid. Just because you are trying to win friends and influence people by playing the village idiot doesn't mean you actually have to be an idiot. Get some respect for yourself and you might get somewhere in life. I'm allowed to ask a question. I'm allowed to inquire about a statement. Just because it has to do with Hifonics doesn't mean I have a hard on for them. Cody's statement contradicted literally all my experience and I wanted to know what he was talking about.

All I did was ask Cody to elaborate on a vague statement and now the runny nose brigade is ganging up on me and telling me basically "Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nobody likes you!" Children, I left the 3rd grade 20 years ago.

So your sole intention on this forum is to pester people? Because obviously people wouldnt be bugged by you, or not bugged if the case may be, unless you pestered them first.

I'm not capable of formulating a thought for myself? What do you think I've been doing for the past 4 years on this forum? When have I ever said something that would leave one to believe that he is the god of car audio and knows everything? Please point that out to me, I sure would like to see. Yes, this would be me calling you out for you to provide proof on the bull **** youre making up. So lets see it. He doesn't own his own business. He is the manager of a single store in a chain of stores. You failed to address the fact that you said he wasnt full of ****, but in a previous post you asked was it "more uninformed tripe from my boss"? You ask why I dont point out things youve said that are wrong, its because I used to tolerate you, but now I've come to terms with reality and realize you're the 10ft tall guy on the internet, but the 5'6", a buck seventy kid with short **** syndrome. Dont worry, I'll be more than happy to point out your flaws from now on.

Ive never said I'm the know all of audio, if i did somewhere in a previous thread it was meant as a joke. Like your momma JOKES. laughing...haha, that kind of thing.

Lose the holier than you attitude john, or just the attitude period. Get over yourself, everyone else already has.

Wait... your telling me to get a little respect for myself?
Friends aren't won, and if they were... I would have them all. Why you ask? Because I am a winner! Simple as that.

Please elaborate on what you know about my life. The internet isn't "life" and what I do on http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/ does not have any symbolic connection to how succesful or confident I am in the real world. The only forum that would be symbolic of that is the forum I post on giving advice to others. Yes... I give advice to others - pretty hard to imagine isn't it? But everyone needs their "emotional outlet" in this world man... and coming here is my way to do it. I admit I portray myself as a dumbass on this site, but that is only because the real world does not accept that kind of ****.

For being 19 John... I think I am doing pretty well for myself. Sure, I live at home and go to a community college because I'm what some "asshat" behind a desk defines "middle class" so I cannot get Financial Aid to go to a university. Sure I may never have the achieved status that a Harvard graduate has or be as succesful as others, BUT I know by the time I reach my mid-twenties I will not be on some speaker forum starting **** with others who share the same hobby.

"I may get somewhere"? Sorry buddy, but I'm already going somewhere. The truth is I know who I am, and you do not... I have not once started **** on this website knowing that I would piss others off. I have only joined in once the fun has began... or is it begun... **** it now we are all having fun aren't we? So my friend... amuse me and speak of what you know about Adam, everything besides the type of speakers, amps, head-unit, sound-deadening, wiring, car, how old I am, my phone number, my work, my last job, or where I live? :D

Not too much, right? You know why? Because you don't know me as I already stated before. You only know the Adam who is completely detached from real world when he logs into this forum. You do not know the Adam who is responsible for beta testing voice verification software for banks, for creating employee databases, for helping others, for coming in on his day off, for staying late, for coming into work early, for putting damn near every drop of time into his schoolwork when he is not at work. I'm sorry man... but before you judge someone and start blowing hot air, please reconsider.

I guess you are entitled to ask a question, John. That question should not be about amplifiers... it should be the following:

"Can someone please tell me what aisle the vaseline is in?"

I'm sorry to the numerous individuals who have started threads only to be derailed by the regulars on this site. We are all here because we enjoy audio, home, car, or whatever it may be. We aren't here to argue.

I just think this whole thing is **** insane... It came about because the word "overrated". You know very well what "overrated" means in a conversation about amplifiers, Hifonics amplifiers to be exact. And if you do not know then I'd like to ask you a question my friend.
Where the **** have you been in myriad of threads that we discussed Hifonic's amplifiers?

    Best Regards,
    Adam ;);)
