New Polks came broke.. HELP!

I purchased a pair of RTi28's from a Polk enthusiast. They were tested prior, -even though they were known to work anyway. They arrived, I hooked them up (Denon 2802), and right off the bat they were raspy, staticy, and hissy.. (One way more than the other), especially at low volumes. Since they sounded different as I wiggled the wires in the binding post I installed them to nice 8 or 10 gage wire with a short run to the B channel, and the "blown sounding speaker" was the same. Reconnected the RM6600's and sounds great with the new CSi30. Checked the connection to the receiver thoroughly and checked out good. HELP! What do I do? The shipper has offered to return the $$, but I'd just like to have a nice pair of Polk RTi28's.. They came bubble wrapped and paper packed with some okay packing material, the box came kinda squishy, but the speakers look great no signs of physical damage. However, they could have been impacted and something may have come loose.. Can someone help me with getting these working.. Pleeeezee!

about the only thing to do is open them up and see if there is anything loose inside, loose wire, something loose on the crossovers??? something. If all looks good, then it just about has to be bad drivers.

Polk is good about helping you get replacement drivers on speakers, so you still have hope if there is a broken driver. I had a similar problem with some RT3's from ebay. The tweeter magnet had broken off during shipment. Ken helped out a lot.

Maybe the seller can help you pay for the replacement drivers if that is the problem.

Well, I took the worst of the two appart and found nothing loose. I plugged it back in a rasssspppp.. Yuk.. I plugged the second one in and in comming up in low volume the driver sounded the same, raspy and missing.. However as I applied a bit of power, like maybe -25db it seemed to pump up, pressurize, a start giving of some potential of what this little gem might do. I was wondering maybe they just need more power, then I re-read the specs.. Naaa, it the speaks.. Bummer :-( I guess I need to talk with Ken, -Huh? Can someone help me with that or is he Customer Service? Thanks!!!

yeah work with the seller and see if he'll pay half the cost of any driver replacement.

yeah then call Ken at customer service and i bet they'll be sounding good again in no time.

Mention to Ken you are a Club Polk member. and they give you a discount on parts. Polk Audio customer service is top notch.

    good luck

Thanks! Looks like Polk has accomidation pricing for the drivers.. Package may of been covered for the cost of the new drivers shipped.. I hope that solves my problem. Shipper has been great! This has been unfortunate.. You should hear some of the stories about UPS & DSL that I've heard recently.. Yikes.. Hackey sack with your package at lunch.. Like to see them do that with one of those big SVS' :-)

Ken was fantastic at customer service, the price was even better when I called him, not too much at all for the new drivers.. Great customer service I will have to agree.. Thanks Ken!

My recent experiences with UPS have also been...discouraging to say the least. I bought my first amp off ebay, two weeks ago. Seller crates it up pretty well, weighing in at a whopping 95 lbs, packed. Only to have UPS lose it before I can ever even see it in person. How do you lose a 95lb crate? I really think some Brown worker is enjoying my amp. Those ****.

Sorry, just had to vent. Good luck with your drivers though.

I also purchased a pair of LSi15's used and UPS cracked a base and scratched the other. Now Polk no longer makes the shiny black (plastic) bases and only makes a black pressed wood base (carpet spikes from old base also don't fit this new base). Does anyone know where I can get a older base for an LSi15?
