I miss the old Monitor 10. I was in a bar in New Mexico last week and they had a set of Polk Monitor 10's hanging from the ceiling---they sounded fantastic. And get this, they were connected to the CD Jukebox as extension speakers and still sounded great.

Bring them back Polk. None of this tall/narrow silver crap, some good old wide-body Monitor 10's, built like they were in the 80's. What a great speaker....

If I had the proper tools/skills I'd buy a beat-up set and build new cabinets around a set of used Monitor 10's.

There are three fairly nice looking pairs on e-bay right now. Go for it!

The Monitor 10As were my second pair of Polks, after the RTA 8TLs, and I enjoy them greatly, but after I got my 7As, my appreciation for them dwindled a bit. I still love my 10As, but of my 5 pairs of Polks I own at this time, they are the only ones in the closet. I'll probably not let them go, unless the $$$ is right, because of those fabulous Peerless tweeters. I think the drivers and passive could be used in the 7s, too. I'll need to check on that, but I know the PR looks just like the one in my 7s......I'll go check the parts list.

I will agree, though, that Polk should bring back a vintage series of Polks, just as Klipsch does with their Heritage series, like the KHorn, La Scala, Cornwalls, and Heresy. I really don't see them having any trouble selling them, but that's coming from someone who's newest Polk is from 1991. I've had RTi70s, R30s and R15s and got rid of them all in short order, maybe due to the fact that they were better suited for HT. The only series that Polk makes right now that is suited for music, imo, are the LSi series. I'm sure that the RTi series will suffice for a decent two-channel rig, but they still seem to be better suited for HT, also.

Now is a good time to buy. Prices are much lower than they were last year at this time.

I owned the 10's and my brother still has the 7's. The 10's had the sl-1000 tweeter and the 7's the Peerless. My brother and I both much preferred the overall sound of the 10's, fuller, better dynamics IOHO. Only speaker of similar style I preferrred over the 10's are the ADS L-810's.

As much as I would like to see a heritage model, I just don't think they would sell very well. People just don't want the big, boxes. I'm still searching for a banged up set of 10's that I can turn into an MTM model with the rear firing passive radiator.

Steve - Nice post. It's always cool to see a vintage Polk in use, for the unknowing masses of future Bose aficianados.

My first "real" speaker ever(Circa 1984) was a set of Polk Monitor 10b Series, always loved them, and with replacement tweeter....always will. I keep a pair of minty fresh MON10(Original) Peerless, original boxes, in honor of that early experience.

MarkMarc - ADS are very nice, very underrated. I always look for them on the used market.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
