is it me or is this forum going down faster then the titanic?
nobody talks about audio anymore, thats the way it seams to me
at least. nothing but personnel attacks on each other (if done it myself ) so im not blaming anybody. this forum really sucks right now.i used to look forward to what was said from day to day
but right now i could care less. just my 2 cents.

    Mantis,

How do you like your B&K products? I have the RT1000p's as well, and I am running them with the B&K PT3 II and a ST2140 amp. I wasn't very happy the the 1000p's until I got this setup.I had previously used them on an Onkyo HT amp and they didn't push the 1000's like the B&K amp does. I am very interested in the upgrades you made to your 1000p's. You stated in another post your changes sounded much better out of the box. Have you done other tweaks to them? In what ways did they change the components you replaced? Thanks for any information.

Eiy, jeez. That certainly doesn't help.

Mantis, it is you and it is me and it is all of us, fightin and jeerin and doing anything but getting along and talking about cool stuff. As I said before, the forum is only what YOU make it. I tried to start some cool posts, I even numbered them to see how many would come and go, and they died.

So, what is on people's minds? What is happening out there in the audio industry, on the sales floor, in the stores, in the demo rooms... What's happening that is interesting or new?

Anyone have whole-house networking yet? Anyone have XM Radio in their cars? Anyone have a Ham Radio? Anyone doing anything interesting with their home theater setup? Anyone doing anything interesting with their home or business computer sound system?

The forum is what you make it. I only hope that we can be civil, that we can help each other find interesting solutions to audio related problems, and that we can introduce each other to new stuff.

    And you?

[I got xmradio but to tell you the truth ive been sort of put off to post anymore...the dynamic duo from the flea market will just find something wrong with it and start trash talking me...i stick up for myself then it gets out of hand .thats how a forum goes downhill ..put off new members so that its the same old crowd on here with nothing new to say

I would love to talk about XM radio.
Is it any good? Is it worth the trouble to upgrade?
Is it worth the monthly fee's? What is the signal
to noise ratio? I know that occasionally when it storms/snows,
my directv goes away (lose signal). Does this happen with XM
radio? Are there any plans to broadcast DVD-A quality 5-channel sound (6 counting the sub) on XM radio? Is XM radio primarily for the car, or is it applicable in the home?

Billm57, please enlighten me on this subject.

obviously you are already well versed on all aspects of xmradio so why do you ask? I will humor you though as much as I can.. I like it..and think its worth the money..seeing as it hasnt snowed that bad or stormed that bad since Ive had it installed i havent lost a signal yet.

Thank you for your response (sincerely) Billm57.
No, I am not at all well-versed in XM radio.
Do you have a home or a car audio unit?
    Is it really commercial free?

I have "radio stations" on my Directv... but,
honestly, these kinda suck. Is XM radio really
    that much better?

You know... first there was Directv music.
Then, internet music (mp3's and live).
    Now, there is XM radio.

Radio used to be free. But, lately, all that
is broadcast is the same songs (over and over)
seperated by the same unintelligent dribble from
DJ's. Its enough to drive one to CD's only.

    I used to consider a cd-changer a luxury.... now,
    its a necessity.

I'm wondering if this XM radio is anything like all of those music stations on our cable television; not MTV or VH1, but those music only ones, you know what I'm talking about? The quality of those stations are quite poor, and I would go for XM radio, but they would have to sound as good as FM radio.

So to sum up: How does the quality of sound compare with that of traditional FM stereo?

    RNOSEWORHTY,
I love B&K equipment. My new home theater in the basement will be running with a avr507 when it hit's the market,If it doesn't hit the market when I want or need it 2, I will then do the avr307 or the ref30 and ref7270.
I am waiting for my house to get finished and completly spec out my room and then start the complete upgrade on my entire sysem.Read my post on THX and you can get a feel where i'm comming from.
As far as the rt1000p's I still currently own,I did upgrade the tweeter and crossover to the rt1000i's crossover and tweeter.I noticed a difference right out of the box.The tweeter was performing smoother than my orginal one did.I will tell you a quick story on why I did it.A couple of year's back I owned a Yamaha rxv992,then followed a Pioneer Elite vsx26tx.Both receiver were nice for what they did, but the Yamaha mated with my Polk's after a while gave me a headache. The Polk/Yamaha combo was extremely bright .I couldn't take it anymore. So nI decided to give Pioneer Elite a test run.I brought one home and tested the **** out it.It sounded 10 times better than my Yamaha did, but I gave up some dynamic range. The Yamaha did a much better job there.I might have been to dynamic but I was used to it.The Pioneer was flatter and smoother.
Then Denon came out with the avr3801,which did 6.1 powered and multiroom, etc etc etc.I never was a real fan of Denon, but none the less I was open minded. So I got rid of the Pioneer and picked up the Denon(i currenty still own but on it's way out).I noticed that I performed very close to the Pioneer but It gave me powered surround back built in and I really wanted to get into the new format.
Back to the tweeter upgrade ,The speaker's remained bright even with the better smoother sounding receiver's for theater.I used to switch out the wires to the B&Kst140 I still own today, and play music thew that. That sounded much cleaner, fuller, detailed than all the receiver's I owned.I love that amp, it's old but still sound's great.I keep it nice.
B&K is as I found when I brought home the avr307 for a weekend the verybest sounding receiver I had ever heard mated with Polk speaker's.You know you own the same amp I do just alot newer. The tweeter really made the difference overall.I was planning on getting them out untillI had the wild idea to upgrade the tweeter's and crossover's.
I constantly look for a way to inprove my system.Wire make's just a big if not bigger difference in sound quality.I had so many different kind's of wire on my system,I feel I wasted alot of money to get where I'm at today. If i only knew about Transparent(or could afford it)I would of stopped my maddness then.
But life goes on and testing seem's to never stop.No matter what.
The PT3b is such a great sounding pre amp isn't it?If I did 2 channel only, and kept using Polk speaker's in the future, I would use it over just about everything on the market(Rotel comes in close 2nd).
If you want I can talk about all the cool trick's I did to my 1000's to get them to sing. They are a **** to setup but after countless hours dicking with them,I got them to go.

    Micah,
I hear you.I try to talk about my experience's in the field, demoing gear, new stuff on the way, etc. But it seem's some people would rather talk about other thing's.I guess that's fine but this forum is for Audio/video.Thats what I thought when I signed on years ago.
I come and go when thing's get ****(sorry)in here.Remember the Snake guy, i think his name was chris,I leave and don't post for awhile.
There has many member's I don't even see in here anymore, they all come and go.

But for us guy's I hope that we can just all get along, and share our hobbie(and job's like us).

    Micah mentioned house networking.

I networked my house at the first of the year and really really enjoy it. It is all done through a wireless network. Have 3 computers, mine (which is the main CPU), my wifes laptop, and my kids computer (my old CPU) all are configured and work remarkably well. I notice a drop off in speed on the wireless computers, but I am still getting download speeds of about 18-22 kbs. That is still 7- 8 times faster than phone line.

BTW-XM is my next "big" purchase. My friend has one and just loves it. I have listened to it a few times and am very impressed. But this is from a guy that has only 2 listenable radio stations.

XM radio, I dunno, it interests me but I am am certainly NOT interested in having to have add'l gear and having an installation fee plus a monthly subscription fee? I think not.

Ideally I like the idea of it, however, practically speaking, I wonder just how many folks are willing to pay for radio service.

The state of the forum? Simple, as Micah said, it's what we make it folks. That's the beauty of it so if we don't like what's going on we can choose to either be part of the solution or the problem.

i think paying for a decent radio service is like paying for cable or sattelite tv..a long time ago people would balk at paying for that either..but if its involves more choice and better quality pay services will always win in the end
