Just watched War of the Worlds. I liked it. The sound, especially in DTS, was incredible. Loads of bass from beginning to end. Punk-**** subs need not apply.

I liked the movie as an action movie...

But there are so many holes they expect you to accept... really ruined the whole story for me...

Cant wait to watch it on the rig...

It was a very good movie for one reason only -- the SOUND!!! It don't get no better than this, folks.

Disregard the lousy plot and storyline if you can.

Oh yeah, I agree about the ending, but it wasn't simply the ending, it was the last 30 minutes that sucked. However, there's great sound from beginning to end.

    *******MEGA SPOILERS*******

    ******MEGA SPOILERS********

    HOLES -
    1) The beginning... yep - they effed up at the beginning... according to the movie - aliens planted machines here MILLIONS of years ago to take over (you know...when nothing lived here) - question - Why would an obviously... more intelligent life form plant advanced machined here... to take over when the world is populated beyond belief? Yeah I think they messed up here

    2) Simple mistake... every electronic goes out - yet a guy is filming and they start a car up. Assuming they fried every electronics, the computer in the van would of not worked - or any replacment they put in there... so how did they get a van to work?

    3) How did the kid survive a huge attack................................

    4) How did the kid get back... to a street that hasnt been touched at all by aliens... spotless - with power and everyone like they got back from thanksgiving dinner...

    *END SPOILERS*

Yeah - I'll stick with just the sound... way to many holes to make it a respectable movie... hmmm

It couldve been one of the greates movies ever but they ruined it completely the same way Hollywood has ruined so many before.....STUPID **** KIDS!!!!!!!!!

This was just some tear jerker chick flick about him re-bonding with his kids that also happened to have some aliens in it.

This movie was the biggest cinematic disappointment in years to me.

not as funny as Independence Day (ID4), but entertaining. Spock would have said it's an illogical movie, but entertaining. Humvee rolls for miles, while it's on fire? hmmm...

Yeah, way too many obvious holes in the story. The Oglivy (sp?) dude and the entire basement scene could have been cut altogether. Didn't work at all. How come the alien serpent thingie with the eye coudn't find them in that basement? Even a blind man could see they were in there.

If it was an older carburated van I dont see why it wouldnt still run. I dont think there's any circitry that would get wiped out by a "E.M.P" type occurance. But Cruise's car was definatly like that & it stoped, so there goes that theory.

Wasn't too bad except for that crappy blunt ending. I realize they have to cut out a few things when making a new movie but damn they really missed some important details.

I saw this back in theaters a while ago but my dad just picked up the dvd yesterday so I'll give it another spin.

My punk-a$$ sub almost bit the dust a couple of times, and I had to lower the volume. I liked the effects and the sound was great, but those kids drove me crazy. It was enough dealing with the crisis, and to have to deal with the attitudes made things a lot worse. The ending blew major chunks! It would be an excellent demo disc though, if you have an SVS. Like Early said, "Punk-**** subs need not apply!"

why oh why did tim robbins accept this part? he is much too good an actor for that cheese as* fuc* role. anyway, bass was awesome. some visuals were good. plot sucked as*. kids' parts sucked some of the same. yes, many loopholes. turns out it was just ANOTHER one of those movies that makes your blood boil while watching it. i normally would have just turned it off, but i kept praying that around any given corner that the movie might have re-peaked my interest. wow, i believe it was worse than lousy sex.

edit: tim robbin's role as the public broadcasting station's news anchor in 'anchorman, the legend of ron burgundy' was oscar-winning material compared to his role as harlan ogilvy in this movie.

so does daddy (cruise) get to live with his ex-family and the new step-daddy now? he doesn't exactly have anywhere else to go, now does he? now i never watched the original so i had no idea what to expect from the movie (besides the negative things from this thread) but i expected alot from the son. at the end i thought for some reason cruise was about to learn that his son had something to do with the aliens dying. but noooo...dude left his dad to go running home to his mommy. tsk tsk.

damn it! dare i admit that though i hated the movie, i may end up purchasing it? ya'll aren't kidding 'bout the dvd having potential to be a bass demo disc.

edit: one positive about the movie. the preliminary EMP blast. if this movie were to happen in reality, would not an EMP blast be just the thing to jack up our response measures? that would be schweet. well, there'll always be a dodge/plymouth caravan that will forever start up when all other vehicles fail. dodge/plymouth caravan....like will smith once said, "i have got to get me one of these!"

Watched ... liked ... but thought it could have been alot better (considering we're talking a remake of a cool classic) .
Maybe its just the lack of respect I have for Cruise lately (but thats just me) .Tim Robbins talent was definitely wasted in this movie , but there were a few nice/true to the original movie scenes .

DTS was SWEET though !!! I'll watch it again just for the sound (and a few cool flying saucers) ... :p

First Aliens come to earth book I ever read, over 40 years ago, I suppose nothing could live up to those childhood imaginations. This was a buy, could not resist the price discount plus the 3 dollar coupon, a decent enough addition.

You guys weren't paying attention to detail were you? Thats the van that Cruise told the repair guy to change the solenoid on....thats why it ran. Remember, he changed the stater, but it still didn't work---Cruise told him "try changing the solenoid" and it did.

yeah, the burying of the ships on an empty planet so you could come back a million years later to take it over was cheesey---but hey, it's a sci-fi remake, you gotta press the "I beleive" button every now and then and enjoy. I thought it was pretty good, a renter---not a buy though.
