Psw1000?

Is the PSW1000 finally available? Does anyone know how it compares to say an HSU VTF-3 or a SVS PB12-Plus?

I'm just curious if anyone has seen one or read a review of one.

Wow that's a pretty nice system!
Looks like you need a PSW1000 to finish it off.

I got my PSW1000 about a week ago. I'm not sure if break-in is going to help much but so far I can barely hear anything below 30hz. However above that it is REALLY LOUD. Unless the frequency response greatly improves soon I think I will sell it and my PSW650 and get the SVS PC-Ultra.

    Just my $.02

thats a shame, but I've heard this before. I heard it is an absolute monster down to 30 hx, but it dies off something fierce below it.

keep in mind though, I think many people would prefer it because it will fill a room well and is not nearly as big as the SVS. maybe this is what Polk was going for. people who care about the size, and not much about sub 30 hz bass. I hate to think they just couldnt build a sub that will dig that deep.

Thanks for the feedback. You say it drops off steeply after 30hz, I assume you mean in SPL right? What would I be missing if I stuck with the PSW1000 over the SVS PC-Ultra?

I already have 8" drivers in the lsi 15s that can produce some decent bass. The 15s are driving everything above 40hz, so what would I gain if I had the psw1000?

The PC Ultra will light a fire under the PSW1000... period and end.

You'll feel and hear a whole other world... the only real reason to buy an expensive sub for HT is to reach below 20hz or at it - so why buy something that drops off at 30hz...

The PC Ultra is a monster with a 580 dollar driver and a 500 watt amp pushing it along...

The PSW1000 just cant compare Im afraid - atleast not below 30hz.

Here is something else to consider though.

I work at big box retailer in Canada, and I can take advantage of the Polk EPP. I'm not going to say what kind of discount I get, but I wouldn't be paying full price for the sub; however, I would still need to pay full price for the PC-Ultra.

Then get the PCi or PC+

Especially if your primary goal is movies... the PSW1000 might be better for music

Every single SVS sub hits lower than the PSW1000...

Don't misunderstand. I'm not saying the PSW1000 is a bad sub. All major manufacturers have to compromise somewhere. They know most people would never consider putting an SVS size sub in their rooms. Even the majority of those who would, probably have wives that would say no. ;) With the size restraints polk is working with, they couldn't make it hit extremely low and still be really loud. In this case I think they made a good call. Most people would not notice missing sound below 30hz. But they will certainly notice the extreme volume above 30. I really think Polk built an awesome sub here for the average consumer. Now if all us audio snobs could just learn to live with shacking our walls rather than cracking them this sub would be perfect. :D

Spec's are spec's. But the new Psw1000 not being able to dig down pass 30hz in my opnion is unexceptable. It should beable to dig into the 20's and play well. Most subwoofers can do this.

now another way to look at it is sound quality over quanity. If the sub plays extremely tight and quick, doesn't sound forced. Plays extremely natural, It's worth having. Some people like bookshelf design speakers for this reason. Some feel they sound better then towers which alot have sloppy bass when they try to dig low. Most subwoofers I have heard are sloppy at all Freq's.

I'm not trying to bash SVS but I heard 2 differnt ones and was not Impressed at all. They both played very loud but I knew exactly where the sub was. It also in my opnion is not a musical sub at all. Both the square one and the cylinder one.

To buy a sub one must hear it first and make up his or her own mind if this is the correct sub. Many love the SVS and myself think they suck.

Polk has gone below 30hz before with the RT3000 subs. Why can't they do it again? I would much rather go with the size of the PSW1000 over the size of the SVS but the rest of my system is already hitting below what the PSW1000 offers.

SVS isn't the only sub on the market. Want a killer sub that digs deep and is very musical?? Look into Martin Logan subs. The depth is killer.
