Unhappy with my sub

I have a velodyne powered 10' sub that Ive had for almost two years now.I have never been all that happy with it,when I bought it I was using bookshelf speakers so they did a nice job filling in the low end.Ive been using them with rti8's for a little over a year, and it doesnt impress me much.I use it on a two channel rig,and I bought it for music, once in a while i"ll turn on the stereo to watch a movie...does a fine job,but doesnt have that tight pop Im looking for on music.I recently read through the book, and it seems that its primarily made for movies though says does well on music too.Anyway this thing has a 100w plate amp,Im thinking of putting a bigger amp,do ya think that would help out or should I just sell it and upgrade?

Sell it and upgrade. If you want a really musical sub that will also do movies , look into Martin Logan subs. Lately I have been really Impressed with everyone I Install. Very quick very musical. Very clean.

Dynamo is there entry level sub and for the money, it's hands down the best musical sub I ever heard. You have to spend more to get a more musical sub. I love it.

Grotto is the next level up and a nice improvement. It's really fast and crazy musical.

Depth is a serious sub. Depending on how much you wanna spend, this sub is really nice. I would use it in my system.

Descent. Very expensive but worth every penny. This sub really can pressurize a room. The thing about martin Logan sub is they just go lower and louder. The same musical ability doesn't get lost up or down the line.

You can also check out Rel. They also make a crazy musical subs. Buy anything from them and experience musical sub at it's finest.

Velodyne now really doesn't make musical subs anymore. There HGS series where musical but these new DD subs in my opnion are not. There 2 punchy and forced sounding. Everything seems like it's forced out. Thumbs. If you like that or listen to rap music, then the new higher end Velodynes will please to the end degree. But if you desire a sub that you can't tell you have a sub, then Nothing Velodyne todays makes will fit the bill.
Funny I sat with a DD12 for a few hours messing with it to try and get it to sound musical. I got it close but certain notes **** there way out. I hate that sound.

    Good luck

It really depends on what model of velodyne 10" you have... I mean, a DD-10 should be an awesome musical sub. A VX-10 could be replaced by much better gear...

Now I personally have been wanting to hear the Veoldyne Signature 1812 sub (I mean, come on, they named it after the only musical piece I know of that was written for cannonade). Only thing though is that it weighs a heck of a lot more then I do, so much so that I would never be able to get it into my room (not that it would matter since I could probably just plug it in anywhere in the house and still hit reference levels in my room from it).

Hsu STF-2 is a fantastic musical sub. Onix Rocket subs are great for 2-channel, as well. Super tight bass.

I second the Martin Logan recommendation. It's nice to see someone else on the forum who appreciates these subs as much as I. Thanks Mantis.

The Grotto is a great sub for pretty much any room that isn't too big. Very musical, as Mantis stated. You could probably get an SVS for $1000 that rumbles a bit deeper, but it will take up 3 times as much space, and not be as musical. The Grotto still gives you that rumble in the chest, but makes up for a few Hz less deep by being extremely quick and tight. I wish I could afford one right now.

You might never be satisfied with a sub for music, especially running with tower mains. I tired it (SVS PC+) didn't like it, even though my freq curves were very good.

Glad to see you're finally pulling the trigger on the Onix.

Steve had a good point about your Rti8's. Usually, there's no need for a sub if you've got towers, so integrating a sub may not give you the results you're looking for.

Have you considered moving up the Polk line to get some Lsi9's? You'll be much happier with the Lsi series for music or another bookshelf speaker, especially if you're using a sub.
