Just a quick comment...The Denon's, Yamaha's and Pioneer's of the world might not sound the best in regards to powersupply and analog pre-amp sections...there is a reason for this. Money. All three company's have more or less carried the A/V industry for the last decade and push the boundries so to speak on newer technology's.
Room correction, HDMI and now with new surround formats which I believe Denon will have on their new 28 and 38 series receivers this July. Yamaha and Pioneer will have their respective receivers made available by late September. These three company's core demographic are home theatre enthusiasts as well as custom installers. With the right speaker selection all three company's can produce products that will entertain any fan of movies. If you've never played around with room calibration devices or know the differences between them, (not all are the same, some are built in SPL meters only) enjoyed DSP modes for movies, have your home networked from various PC"s, or do video switching through an AV receiver then chances are you'll enjoy the NAD, HK's and Marantz's of the world much more.
The big three are really trying to create something different however and that's an entire multimedia center nowaday's and their isn't enough dough left at the end of the day to use a torridial power supply; unless stepping up to their flagship's which usually don't sell that well because for the price the installer/consumer has other alternatives like pre-pro's and separate amplifiers.
It really is a case of apples and oranges. -
Thanks for the info. Hand held sound meter is the way to go. The theater is not as simple as it seems. Rooms traps can require different adjustment for all speakers especially the front 3. Hand helds can help you adjust it no matter what size the room.

I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
Interesting. I just checked out frys.com and not one Denon AVR was mentioned. They aren't mentioned as an authorized dealer by Denon either.
Strange they don't list them on their website. But the local stores advertise denon stuff all the time.
The easter sale ads had a DHT-487DV on sale for $499 and an AVR-987 on sale (price not indicated). -
I love my 3805! It's rock solid. I know I'm probably just in the "Mid-Fi" range, and someday will improve, but for the HT I do, it kicks butt! I couldn't be happier for the money I spent on it.
I am looking into a nice 5 Channel Amp, so we'll see what happens. Anybody know if Sunfire mixes well with Denon, or is this even a concern?
Thanks guys!
This forum rocks!

When the thread was started, my local Fry's was advertising them in the Indianapolis Star, which has a pretty decent circulation. I doubt that the Indy Fry's was the only Fry's carrying Denon receivers at that time."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Nothing wrong with being in Mid-Fi range Nightly, you have tons of company!
Those of us who have been here a while KNOW that the power suffers with Mid-Fi receivers which is why we always recommend getting ones that have preouts. A separate 200wpc amp will kick it up several notches!!!;)
A Sunfire mixes VERY WELL with Denon's I know that personally!!! Have you NOT paid any attention to my signature??
