I don't know how many have noticed, but Fry's has started carrying Denon receivers. I'm not sure about the other components, but I'd have to assume that they will be carrying the other pieces as well.
Just a heads up for the Denon fans out there.
They also have the new line of HK receivers in.

I don't see why not considering they do on everything else when they have a sale. But if you don't mind getting a pre-owned receiver, then you should check out the Opus might be replacing soon."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

I usually think pretty well of Denon products for overall consumer use (read: 8 Ohm speakers used primarily for movie viewing), however I recently lost a bit more respect for them as quality music amps due to a comparison I did with a customer. We tested the Denon 3806 against the Marantz SR8500. Besides the Marantz receiver's obvious advantage in having a true torroidal transformer as a power supply, I truly think Marantz just sounds better anyway. However, I never truly realized how inferior Denon receivers are for music until I did a side by side comparison. First of all, we were using Beethoven Baby Grand speakers from Vienna Acoustics, 4 Ohm speakers, although not too hard to drive with a decent amp. The music playback through the Denon sounded veiled, as if it were compressed through an iPod. When switching to the Marantz, it had an open, airy and clean sound, like music should. Here's another one to wrap your head around: The difference in price between the 3805 and 8500 is $300. However, when pitting the 8500 against a B&K 507, there was a very subtle difference in quality, although noticable. The difference between the Denon and Marantz in quality was huge. And the B&K is $3500, that's $2000 more than the Marantz. Pretty amazing.
As I said, I used to be able to recommend Denon amps for overall use, but I don't even think I can do that anymore. The musical performance is just so inferior. Some on the forum would say 4 Ohm speakers demand separates, and I certainly don't agree with that. While separates certainly adds to the experience, there are many fine receivers capable of running 4 Ohm loads with ease. One would expect a $1200 Denon receiver to be cabable of running 4 Ohms at least decently, but I wouldn't call what I heard decent.
The only Denon I've ever heard that I like for music is the DRA685, a basic 100 wpc stereo receiver. To get that kind of sound from a surround Denon, you'd probably have to go with the 5805.Current System:

I think Denon does well in the digital domain. I have much respect for the 2900 but I would never throw dollars into their receiver/amp hole. I like seperates and probably the only integrated I would even consider would be Rotel.
This is just my opinion.

MrNightly,
You have been looking to set up your system for a while now. Might as well "pull the trigger" and snag up something. Nice thing about components is that you can always change them out in the future. Better to have something going now than to save forever and miss out on the enjoyment now.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

this is true. I have my sights on the 3805... but then he brought up that about the Music, and started me wondering again. I just know that I want something that will work great with HT. All this debate about pre-pro vs receciver, makes a guy nervous J/K.
I'm working a deal on the 3805 with a user from this site. Patience NEVER hurt anyone tho, and you can't rush a good system Right? Ha. Oh well.. excuses excuses...Honoured to be, an original SOPA founding member

I noticed a huge diference when I went from my Onkyo to a Marantz. I'm really impressed with their HT receiver. My SR6200 (110 wpc 8 ohm) drives a pair of SDA-2s, RTi6s and a CSi40 with no problem. Clean, quiet, warm sound. It cost about $1K new, I bought mine used for $350. Very happy!Carl

Marantz is stable and clean into 4 Ohms throughout the line, although the 8500 at $1500 is a real gem as it uses a true torroidal transformer, which equals great dynamics and headroom. I would recommend that over a 3805, or even a 7500 from Marantz for about the same price as a 3805. Much more musical, although if your speakers aren't too demanding (ie 8 Ohm) the Denon won't sound terrible. Still, Marantz is better. Marantz also doesn't clutter up their processing with DSP modes that no one ever uses.Current System:

What's the big deal about denon, aren't they just over priced sonys anyways? I belive they are both made by nipon, but I could be wrong. I know denon is supposed to be built to a higher standard, but is it really. I know if you look at some of the sony products, and look at the denon products, they look a lot alike(more so with the older stuff). Any way that's my 2 cents, not that it matters. Never had denon, so I would not know how they are, all I know is I do not care for sony, I'd take a pioneer first, But I want separates and am still hunting for what I like.

I use a Denon AVR for 2 channel playback quite often. It is a great match for the RTxxi series of Polks. I also own a DRA-685. IMO their musical performance is just fine and far from inferior. My Denon 80 wpc AVR is rated for a 4 ohm load according to one of their product specialists. I have used my AVR to drive my SDAs and while not optimal...it will do an adquate job.
I think they are the best of the mass market AVRs. I would recommend the them anytime for a good, reasonably priced HT setup anytime over Pioneer, HK, Yamaha, Sony or Onkyo from my experience.

I f I could do it all over again I would probably have gone another route than my 7100ES, but since I didnt, I like it and enjoy it. It has gotten ok reviews all around so, it'll do for now. Next time, pre/pro combo for sure. I opted for the Marantz CC4001 today instead of ordering the Sony ES CDp, I hope it exceeds my expectations.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I just picked up, locally, an older Denon AVR-3600 and it is built like a brick shithouse. I've ressurected (sp) my HT rig and am using it to power (ACK!) my 2.3tl's. (this is ONLY until Hoosier can find his way to the damn UPS store, I assure you). Again, not optimal but not NEARLY as bad as I thought.
Kind of nice having DD again for movies.

As with any audio, if you are a sound ****,you'll get tired of the mid range reciever and look for better anyway,I have the Marantz SR-18 and I love it,it's a beast. As far as Denon goes I have played with the 5803 this week and I must say that my 18 pretty much blows this reciever out of the water,I thought by the 5803's size and weight that there was something to it,I was wrong, don't get me wrong though it has it's perks and it is powerful, but god was it bright in every aspect.I'm already looking into seperates though,I just know there is a nirvana out there and it doesn't come from a reciever mid or high end.LG 50 in. Here's a question that more than likely has been asked and answered before: can the 5805CI hold 4ohm stable until a man was able to afford a good amp? More specifically the LSi series 7.1
