It appears that it was the email response to Justin that did him in. No loss anyway.

It wasn't even in my Netflix Que. A friend of mine insisted, so I watched it and enjoyed thoroughly. Well made, well done.

I watched it a couple of nights ago and was impressed with the acting and the SINGING.

Joaquin Phoenix performed all of the songs himself without being dubbed and learned to play guitar from scratch.

Reese Witherspoon did her own singing. She also had to learn to play the auto-harp.

They had vocal training for six months with music producer T-Bone Burnett.

Johnny Cash chose Joaquin Phoenix to play him in the film. June Carter Cash reportedly chose Reese Witherspoon for her role in the film. also.

I was totally impressed with this movie. It caught my attention in the very beginning when my room started vibrating from the bass guitar and clapping in the prison. It only got better from there!

I finally watched this last night. It was an amazing movie. I cannot believe how well Phoenix and Reese did at singing. I am very impressed. I thought the movie as far as plot and story was very good, but I could not wait for more singing and songs. So impressive.

I picked up the soundtrack CD last week just to hear all of the songs. Recording was very good. Listening with headphones there is very good channel separation. I'll put it thru the srs 2 sometime to get my Reese fix.:D

Can't believe its taken me over three years to catch this one, but finally did tonight and really enjoyed it. (I was out of the country when this came out). Anyway, this is definately one of the better recent DVDs I've viewed.

On the other hand, my HT is much better than it was 3 years ago so maybe it was worth the wait to get the full live experience. I hadn't read through this thread before I saw it but it did seem as if Phoenix was singing. I'm also wondering about Reese Witherspoon. Her performance both on and off stage was extremely impressive. So, was she singing herself as well?....sorry, I know this is a very dated question.

Anyway, great movie. Don't own any Johnny Cash but now I want to get some...any suggestions?

Norm I would start with San Quentin, and then Folsom Prison.

If you read through here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Cash you can find the play list. Also there are special editions that were recently released with many more songs on the album. I think it is nice to have the originals though.
Later if you get a chance a lot of his older cowboy stuff is real cool. The story telling songs he does brings out emotions.
    Enjoy.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

Thanks, Ben. This is whole new territory for me. When I was in my late teens/ early 20s, Garth Brooks and others seemed to hijack country western and I was kind of turned off by the whole genre unfortunately. Time to go back in time and get into the earlier stuff.

I was impressed with the movie and the performance of the actors (acting and singing)...but not enough to go out and purchase any of Johnny Cash's music. I have never particularly cared for his music...but that does not prevent me from appreciating his talent and his career.
