Wonering if the gains you could possibly receive by using DVI capable DVD player are worth it on a 32inch HD CRT Sony VVega TV. Or if it would be almost unnoticable compared to component video coming out of say a denon 2900. Basicly the Denon 1910 vs. 2900. Please give any and all opinions, thanks.

If a tv and dvd player or cablebox has DVI out/ In then yes this is the best way to go. On your 32 inch tv, it will be harder to tell the difference.

If you have component already, stick with it and spend your money elsewhere.

If you upgrade to a larger HDTV then DVI or HDMI does have a noticable better picture.

    I still like component.

I tried the DVI/HDMI, I didn't like that it left a lil line on the top of the screen which was white. I use comp and the price dif in cables for the quality, not worth it IMHO.

SOUNDS like a prob with dvd player or tv. and like mantis said, almost pointless without a bigscreen to use dvi.

There are quite a few discussion across the net about DVI/HMDI vs component. The consensus seems to be...it depends. I have tried both with my Denon 1910 and Panny 53 in HD RPT and I could tell little difference. Since I borrowed the DVI cable I stayed with the component as the cost was not worth the difference (if any).

Actually with the CRT set mentioned in this thread, its Digital to Analog within the TV anyway. So there is very little advantage to using DVI with CRT sets. It all depends on the quality of the output of the DVD player. Some players do better on DVI, while others have better output on the Components. Very few players have equal quality output on both.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

The quality of the pic on my TV with the DVI/HDMI was not enough to justify the cost dif.

Mine was set up DVI/HDMI from the HD cable box to my 32"lcd.
I say if you have comp cables lying aroud as I did use that you can use the cash towards an upgrade which will make a real dif.

somewhere along the signal's path it'll always become analog at some point. but keeping it digital as long as you can is theoretically best. but as you say, for a smaller crt, even high def, it's not going to make much of a difference.

I'm using composite now, and don't believe I'm able to use a DVI/HDMI cable even if I wanted to, since the Comcast Motorola boxes aren't yet setup to support it.

If anybody out there has Comcast and is using a DVI/HDMI cable, please let me know!

Do you think the dvi from the dvr cable box to a 46 w/s hd projection tv would make much of a difference over the component cables? The reason I ask is because charter cable doesnt have the dvi working on the box I have now but I can get on a waiting list for a dvr that does.

    ding! ding! ding!

For example, a DVD player with a superior interlacer with component output will kick the carp out of the DVI DVD player with the inferior interlacer. (ie Denon vs. Samsung)

SUCH is the case with my oppo. it's dcdi chip upconverts signal only through dvi. component is not anything to brag about. all i know is when i had my cox cable high def box, i had it hooked up via component and then went to dvi and saw no gain what so ever. did not exactly do a side by side, but with high def, there wasn't much to look for. all is clear as can be.
