T90e Euro Speakers

Just a quick one here, I have a set of T90e Euro SPeakers that I bought maybe 3 months ago at the most and they have sounded great so far. Last night I had them cranked up, but no more than normal and now they sound muffled. If i put the volume level where I normally do, the output is maybe half of what it should be. If there a fuse inside? Any idea??

    Do you hear any sound coming out of the tweeter? (The smallest driver (circular object) under the grill). If not...

    It could be two things...

    ONE, you blew your tweeter

    TWO, you blew the crossover

    There is a way to figure out which is which.

    Unplug the tweeter and switch it to the good speaker (assuming both are good) - and see if it plays in that one. If it dosnt, its the tweeter. If it does, its the crossover.

    Yeah I just checked it, and it doesnt seem that either tweeter is working, all others individual speakers are putting sound out, but the tweeters seem to be dead. One of them is actually caved in.

    Next question, how do i order tweeters?? haha

    After you order your tweeters start looking at a separate amp for your speakers. Or otherwise TURN IT DOWN!

    Fix the Polks, then sell them.

    Take the money, and go buy some big Cerwin Vega's to crank and abuse.

    What the hell are you driving them with?? :confused:

    These are the Euro version of the Monitor 60, right?
    If so, they should be quite loud with proper amplification and without having to damage them. :rolleyes:

    The receiver i have is a Sony, 300 watt if I remember correctly, dont quote me on that. It is normally loud enough, but if you add enough alcohol, the volume level never seems loud enough.

    You guys seem to know your ****, what would be a recommended receiver/amp for these particular speakers.

    By the way, I dropped the speakers off at Tweeter this afternoon, they will be fixed free of charge within a week.

    First off, and no offense intended, unless that Sony is an ES series, I'd replace it for sure. The Monitors tend to be bright and the Sony's are bright also. Bad combo for music, imo. Do you know if your receiver has pre-outs? If so, then you could start with getting a seperate amp. If not you need to give us more info, like budget, what the systems main purpose is, etc.

    Well thats a positive spin I guess, I'll concur with what nd just said. Just be sure that whatever you get has a decent amount of reserve current, and a good damping factor.

    Sony. Take those "300 watts" and divide by 7 at 1khz.

    Further that by measuring the full range at 20hz-20khz, and you have your answer.

    A weak amp will fubar your speakers faster than a strong amp. :)

    Thanks for the help guys. I think I would like to upgrade to a new unit. The only specs I can find are for the Monitor 60 (apparently they are the same as the T90-Euro). They are:
    Overall Frequency Response 38Hz - 25kHz
    Lower -3dB Limit 48Hz
    Upper -3dB Limit 24kHz
    Nominal Impedance 8 ohms
    Recommended Amplifier Power 20 - 200 w/channel
    Efficiency 90 dB
    Crossover 2.25kH, second order high and low pass
    Inputs Dual (bi-amp) 5 way binding posts
    _______________________________________________

    Any suggestions for a good unit to drive these speakers? Feel free to educate me, like I said I only bought the speakers a few months ago, new to the game I guess you could say.

    We already told you! All receivers have limitations on how loud they can go before they go into protect mode or destroy your speakers.

    If you are going to insist on playing it that loud, make sure you get a receiver with pre-outs & buy a separate amp to drive the speakers.

    Or keep it at a reasonable volume & stay sober so you can actually hear!

    If you are only using them for music, get a HK 3380 receiver and a seperate amp to hook up to the pre-outs. Something in the neighborhood of 150-200 high current watts per channel will be more than adequate. You should be able to get both pieces(depending on amp) for between $600-1000. You'll be very surprised at the difference in the performance you'll get. Hell for that matter, you'll be surprised at the difference between the Sony and the Harman Kardon. The HK will blow that Sony away. It is rated 80 high current wpc @ 8 ohms and it's probably more than that. Denon also makes a decent stereo receiver, but I'm not up on their specs or whether or not they have pre-outs. Good Luck and happy shopping.

    Don't rule out used or refurbs either. HK sells refurbs with warranties for great prices..

    Get ready to become addicted to audio. Once you hear the difference between average gear and very good gear, the obsession will start. Before you know it, you'll be getting tubes in the mix, then the game really begins :D
