Need quick help with our Jetta

We (Dad) dropped the radiator cap to our 2002 Jetta TDI, and it's laying on the top of the undercarriage skid pad/protector whatchamacallit. I can't get to it from above, and I can't seem to whack the skid pad right to make the cap slide near the edge, so we're thinking about taking it off. There appears to be about 7 screws holding it on, and then it looks like it should just slide off. The question is, where under the car can you jack it up? There's not enough space under there to do it without having the car jacked up, and I don't see anywhere under there that looks like it'll take a jack.

Any help would be much appreciated!

From my experience most german cars have a spot just behind the front tires on the sides that are intended as the lift point. On my bimmer it was right at the leading edge of the front door. Might be slightly different for VW. If you have the manual it should tell you for sure.

Maybe try one of those magnets attached to a an extendable antenna thingamajiggy. Can be bought in auto stores or home supply stores for a few bucks.

Well, I went running outside to tell Dad so we could get started, and he was gone! I called him and he said he was on the way to the VW dealership to buy another cap.

I suppose we'll still have to get the old one out of there.

I looked along the edge of the car, but I (with my admittedly unexperience eye) didn't see anywhere that looked like it'd support a jack.

Also, the cap is a huge plastic piece, so my magnet wouldn't work.

    Thanks for the responses!
