Would it be ok to us sun of a gun or some other type of rubber restorer/shinner. It wouldn't hurt them would it. Thanks

I don't know about that, why would you want to chance it. There are many different rubbers, and rubber can still deteriorate.

At the most, depending on the cone material, maybe a lightly damp cotton cloth, or lint-free cotton pad/ball..... If you wanted to push it, 99% isopropyl alcohol (evaporates VERY rapidly with almost ZERO adhersion properties)....

I would NOT touch a commercial cleaner to the drivers, period.

    Cheers,

    I second that,
just use a slighty damp cloth .Your driver's shouldn't get real dirty if you keep the grill's on.

The problem with that stuff is that it attracts dirt/dust. I wouldn't use it on my car. My speakers? NEVER!

I can only assume you are doing this on your car speakers. If you stop smoking all that weed in your car, you won't have this problem!smiley_rotflmao.gif

I bought an old pair of Crs's off Hoosier 21.
The drivers were CAKED with dust. UGLY.
    Here's how I cleaned them.

    1. Alchohol on cotton ball.
    2. Windex (amonia) to remove white ring from center dust caps.
    3. The rubber was looking brownish - oxides. So, i used some armor-all equivalent with a cotton ball and they cleaned right up to a nice shiney black color.
    4. Because the alchohol didn't remove all the dust and the driver cones still looked crappy, I used the same armor-all equivalent and a cotton ball on the woofer cone. Now, it also looks brand new-ish.

These products are designed to PROTECT rubber from oxidation. They do more good than harm. Don't be so afraid of them. Be more afraid of leaving them unprotected as oxygen hardens rubber over time - changing the durometer (flexibility) considerably.

    CRS's ancient crap???
    Huh???
Ok, they are old - I'll give ya that.
But, I'm listening to em right now and they sound mighty fine.

Anyway, yes, I paid a little more than $200 for em.
Of course, I could sell em in a heartbeat and get my money back.
But, why would I want to?
