Star Wars: Episode III

+1. quality over quanity -
I thought the PQ was great, but was kind of disappointed withe the sound. I really had tp crank it up to hear everything clearly, though the subwoofers got a good workout. It seemed like the bass was the loudest part of the soundtrack. I thought the sound had much more punch in I and II. Overall though I really like it. However, some of the dialoge is down right painful (I love you, no I love you more.....ouch). Didnt the actors ever tell Lucas how lame some of the writing was? Anyway, I think I'll be having a Star Wars marathon at my place soon. I'm sure others will as well.Music and Movie Rig

Amazing action sequences and special effects. Horrible writing and directing of humans and humanoid computer generated characters. Nothing new with Lucas about this. I laughed out loud several times at the dialog and accents. The best thing to me was tying in characters at the end of this episode leading to Episode 4.
Every time they mentioned killing the younglings, I couldn't help but think of the attached. -

They're all afraid to tell Lucas their 2 cents. Look at any of the dvd extras. You can cut the tension with a knife as Lucas walks in on the production crew and says "I like this, don't like that, could improve here..." They're all yes-men and stand around him taking notes and nodd.
Of course working for Lucas arts is a dream job so I don't blame them for not jumping in there and say "You're wrong George"! :eek:Polk Rt800i -Fronts

When you're surrounded by green screens, and all the director cares about is if you said the lines correctly and looked in the right direction, you're not going to be expecting much in terms of story and performance. Also, the editing was not well-done. Too many un-rhythmic pauses to give way for the effects shots, and all the action sequences just sort' 'happened', instead of developing and unfolding in an interesting way. I actually think Ep II was better, but that's not saying much.
Some silly moments:
Anakin jumps back into the elevator, Kenobi turns, sword in hand, then retracts. "Oh...it's YOU..!". Did he REALLY need to say that?
Grevous: "Activate the ray shield!"
Kenobi, Anakin, and Palps are trapped in a ray shield.
Anakin: "A ray shield!"
A overly-expositional shot of a ship descending to a planet, entering a landing cave, opening up, and Grievous exits..goes into a room, and turns on the hologram. The dark emperor tells him to do one thing, and Grievous obliges. Wasn't the communicator in the ship working? Did we really need all those shots just to get to that little piece of conversation?
R2 can fly, spit oil, zap other robots, and decode a ship's security system....but they forgot to put an internal communication device inside of him, so he has to deal with a walkie-talkie with the volume cranked all the way up.
I don't know about you, but I bet I could take out one of those skinny battle-droids with a wiffle-ball bat...yet they haven't switched'em out since Ep I.
Standing a few feet away from any pool of lava would be, what, 5000 degrees?! I guess jedis can put up with it better than most folks...but they can't take a laser blast to the midsection.
Trust your feelings, mind your feelings, search your feelings, your feelings betray you....WTF?!! No wonder the kid's a mess.
The green jedi-woman who got blasted on the Smurf planet at the end dressed a little too provocatively for a jedi, much less a warrior...don't you think? I'd hit it.

Remember, Star Wars=Space Opera (soap opera in space), anyone expecting good diologue is going to get disappointed.
I was pleased with the DVD version of the movie and can't wait for my next day off...12+ hours sitting at home in my own little geek world.
What was cool about the prequel trilogy, is that it was finally mildly cool to be a Star Wars fan again...now I'm going to have to go back to being a closeted geek....hehe.RTi4-fronts

I've always found that aspect of Star Wars very interesting and amusing. To me it's par for the course. Episode III was well done in my opinion. -
without going into geekmode the lava thing can be explained by simply looking at the blue forcefield around where they were standing. I got this from the commentary.

I can easily explain the lava thing and all the others:
WHO THE **** CARES???
Tell ya what, you want to see incredible acting performances, directorial artwork and superb dialogue go watch the English Patient.
If you want to watch the coolest story ever told you watch Star Wars. Its got great fight scenes, great action, spaceships, lazers, deathstars, the force, great characters and cool **** weapons. So what if the acting isnt top notch or the story is a little corny, take it for what it is.
Being critical of the acting or directing of Star Wars is the same as bitching about the plotlines in **** movies. Star Wars isnt about winning Oscars, its about fun and imagination. I guess if you grew up on Star Wars youd have a different opinion.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

First off, you're geek, and a foul-mouthed one at that. Secondly, if you didn't get that those points were made in jest, and you're this worked up over it, you're also a fool. Thirdly, I was eight when Star Wars (without 'A New Hope' added) opened. How old were you? SW has never been about life-changing art, it's good eye and ear candy. So what if they don't care about logistics. Chill out and enjoy your cracker-jacks....and your ****.

Anakin was off at war for months before we see him in episode 3. If you really want to learn, read 'Labrynth of Evil', it leads right into the third movie and tells a fun story about the Clone Wars.RTi4-fronts

She wasn't showing nearly as much when they first reunite at the beginning of the movie. At most, two months or so.
But it was a great laugher moment when she tells him the news.
"That's............."
Classic. But the biggest laugh was right at the start of the scrolling prologue. War! Nearly half the theater, myself included, went "War!" when it came up. It went on for about ten seconds...hysterical.

Based on today's Hollywood standards, I stand by that statement. 99% of the time I hear those words stated when describing a film IT IS A PIECE OF CRAP!
Incredible acting performances = overdramatics
Dirctorial artwork = trendy, invogue
Superb dialog = verbose
add it up and you get boring....IMO.

George Lucas makes so much money, he does it his way and not by Hollywood standards.
He'd rather take advice from buddies Stephen Spielberg (boring? I don't think so), Francis Ford Coppola ( trendy?- hardly ) or look towards more of Akira Kurosawa ( Hidden Fortress = Star Wars OT).Polk Rt800i -Fronts

I'm actually a big Star Wars fan (Ep Iv and V, at least), so I say these things toungue in cheek...but they are by no means infallible. In fact, everything that Pixar has put out has been better than anything Lucas has done (even though he created the company), but...the Pixar pictures would have never been possible without Lucas' efforts.
One thing is for sure, Lucas is a true innovator. There would be no surround sound without him, nor any of the biggest adventure pics we know of today (and all that they entail). He's earned the right and the ability to do whatever he wants with his 'films'. But it doesn't mean I have to like everything he does.Polk LSi9 Mains, Polk LSIC Center, Polk RT25i Surrounds, Polk M3II Rear Surround, SVS PB10-ISD Sub, Denon AVR 2809 (as digital pre/pro only), Sony BDP-S350, Oppo DV-981HD, Cambridge Audio Azur 540C (CD), Marantz MM9000 5-ch amp, Outlaw ICBM, Panasonic th-42PX85u HDTV, Behringer BFD Pro, Monster Power HTS 2600 Conditioner -

Yes and no (I'm a fan of the OT) but those that have influenced Lucas are either Oscar winners or critically acclaimed and those directors and thier Oscar work are by no means boring.
You can have those attributes (incredible acting performances, directorial artwork and superb dialogue) with "another world" setting + special f/x and still be thoroughly enjoyable and Oscar worthy.............Lord of the Rings anyone?
Besides I'm not even equating those qualities as automatic Oscar calibre. You can still have your popcorn movie with those elements as well.
I'm not saying Star Wars should've had all that but it could've used a little of those elements.Polk Rt800i -Fronts
