My Polk Momo System

I have a 2000 S-10 pickup regular cab truck. First let me start by explaining my install. Okay first for the headunit I have a alpine cda 9833 deck from last year's lineup of alpine's, this is by far the best deck ive ever owned. Next up for my dash speakers which are 4x6's. I have polkmomo 4x6 plates in those spots. Now for the door speakers which are 6.5, I have the polkmomo 6.5 mmc650 filling those spots. Powering those 4x6's and 6 1/2 momos I have a alpine v-power 4 channel amp pushing those baby's. Now far as subs go i have two polkmomo 8 inch subs in truck boxes at 0.35 cubic feet. The amp im pushing those with are is the alpine v-power mono amp rated at 350x1. I have a gallery of pics im going to show of my install. One thing that i wanted to note is on the amps, I know i could do better but the problem was i did not have enough room for momo amps or the alpine v12 amps. So i was forced to go with the v-power series from alpine. Both of my amps are mounted on the back wall the sub amp is on the driver side and the 4 channel is mounted on the passenger side in between the subs. Overall im pleased with the sound quality of this system. I cut no corners in the install of this system all wires are tied off every six inchs all wires are run under the carpet neat clean install. All my wiring is from streetwires also.

    Excellent work bro.

Dont make any apologies for those Alpine amps. I ran those exact amps myself for over 2 years and they worked just fine.

Man. That's a really good install. Nice and clean looking. All the wires are neatly tied together. You really know how to install! Congrats! Everything turned out looking very nice!

You have good components and a clean install. You should be proud of it. Welcome :)!

On the picture of the 4x6 I notice that the a baffle does not completely go all the way around the speaker. When you put the speaker cover on does it cover up the gap?

no the baffle does not go all the way around it, because that wire you see in that hole right there plugs into the grill for some reason. Never figured out what it's for but they had to leave that opening there so that plug would fit in the hole there. I have those 4x6's crossover set at 160 hertz so it's not hurting my performance bass wise. I use my 4x6's for highs my 6.5's for mid bass and my 8's for the lower freqs.

Well Ive only been to one so Im by far no expert on competing but your equipment is definitely on par with most gear youll find in the lanes however how good you do in competitions isnt necessarily related to how good your gear is.

The biggest challenge in competing is staging and imaging and thats the thing thatll win you competitions. It should be eye level and centered in the middle of the dash. The left and right boundaries should seem to be wider than the car. This aint easy to do and its usually the deciding factor.

Other things would be keeping the bass right. Most people, me included, like a lot of bass but that isnt how its supposed to be. Bass is supposed to only be an extension of the midrange and it shouldnt be any louder than the rest of the music. This is kinda a pain in the **** to accomplish because to reproduce bass you need a big sub and a big amp and they tend to be loud.

I guess the debate on this was not on this board :). Some guys were having a little debate about how bass is not an extension of the midrange, or how the midrange is an extension of it. I guess with age my memory is going :).

By the way Mac, how do you have your SR's wired. I am just curious to see if you are running them actively? My plan is to someday get a pair of these (will have to wait a long while though). My next amp will be a four channel Arc amp. I will probably just biamp them, instead of running them actively. This way I will have the tweeter protected with the Polk crossover.

Yeah that was on here. Actually it was Sid that came on and corrected me and said,"bass isnt an extension of midrange, its an extension of midbass." A little too much hair splitting for me. If you want to get technical its actually an extension of the SUB-midbass.

I have mine running passive. I wouldnt mind an active setup its just that the SR's crossovers are really high quality and so why spend extra money to fix something that isnt broke.

Im probably going to play around with phasing to see if I can overcome some staging issues I have which I wont be able to get rid of as long as my mids are in the doors.

the better question is "why not, you can always put it back the way it was before if you don't like it". we're in this **** to have fun... when we're 'done' with a vehicle, it's actually a sad thing, because then we have nothing to do until another car, more money, and more equpiment roll our way.

nah, i don't think a car is ever truly done... there's always that last teeny little bit of performance you want to get, no matter how good it already sounds... or maybe that's just me...

    Plus you can always upgrade!!

Ive had 3 different brand of amps in my truck and will probably have a fourth within a year of so. Ill never change my speakers tho but maybe when Polk comes out with a new model sub I may change if it will fit.

A watt is a watt so Ill try different amps, but Im very picky about my speakers and now that Ive got the best Ill keep them til they die.

No the sr subs will be out after the first of the year thom said, but you know they are working on a new momo line too. I was just wondering how far off that new offering is going to be. I figure probally around the summer time of next year but who knows.

I think it looks good cam5860, for what it counts. I'm no expert, but i have the MMC650's and the MM2084's as well, and I love them. I like the headunit too, I was really close to getting the 9833 but decided on the 9815 in the end. Your install looks nice, bet it sounds even better.

cam - i dunno, i wasn't aware that they were starting a new momo line... makes sense, i suppose, but i'd imagine a little more than 6 months out, though i have no way of backing that up...

*scratches head* why do things have to change so fast and so often? that's just a general question on all brands in general. it just seems in my little head that a few years ago you would have a product line live for 2 - 3 years before it would change. now they're changing every year. bugs the hell out of me. it's like i can't keep up!

Thanks hextant i am very pleased with the way it sounds, those 4x6 are loud as hell bouncing off the windshield. Man when i first installed this system my damn ears hurt me for a week. I never thought speakers could get this loud to be this small. And those two 8's hit like two 10's they shocked the hell out of me when i first heard them. All i can say is polkmomo rocks man anyone that don't own them don't know what there missing out on.
