For all of you who are loyal fans of the HSU sub-woofers I got mine today and took the opportunity to ask Dr Hsu about speaker cables. Most of what I read said skip the Monster, etc.. and get 12 GA from Home Depot.

I was pleasantly surprised - his response was "Home Depot wire" - and he said unless you have long runs save your money and get 14 GA or 16GA.

Forgive those of us that are new and haven't yet read the thousands of posts.

Also I understand that opinions are like A@@holes everyone has one. That is why there are many cables/speakers and subwoofers to choose from. On this forum you only find Pro Polk speaker fans - but once you get into subwoofers and accessories there are differences in opinions.

As a side note I read alot of research and what I read led me to the HSU subwoofer over the SVS - it fit my needs. I was impressed with Dr Hsu - but that's my opinion.

By the way - he has a PHD from MIT and is a member of the Boston Audio Society - your credentials are????? I can tell you majored in Copy/Paste and have mastered throwing wasting space on a forum where people are looking for help without adding any value.

Look at my first post. I AGREE with Dr. Hsu and I am running Home Depot wire.

Do I need credentials for my statement of fact?

More than just opinions, there are actual differences in cables and speakers. Sure, you will find pro Polk speaker fans here, but a great many of us own speakers from different companies. In fact, some of us prefer the other speakers, so you are wrong about finding only pro Polk speaker fans here.
As a side note I read alot of research and what I read led me to the HSU subwoofer over the SVS - it fit my needs. I was impressed with Dr Hsu - but that's my opinion.

    Nothing wrong with that.

That doesn't mean squat to me. If he can't hear the difference between cables, then I have to question his hearing abilities and if you, yourself haven't tried different cables then you really don't know, do you?

As for the second comment, too funny.

Oh, I didn't think anybody really wanted to know. I received my Bachelor's degree in '96, my MBA in Dec. '04 (4.0GPA on the MBA). I sold A/V gear for a couple years. I use an ECM8000, Eurorack802 and TruRTA Level4 to measure differences in sub placement, speaker frequency response, etc. I have a dedicated home theater room. I've calibrated other peoples home theaters. BUT, I still put my pants on, one leg at a time. :p

It beats the hell out of discussing whether or not cables make a difference...IMHO. (which BTW, I have the credentials and I am more than qualified to discuss in great detail...because I say so)

Dr. Hsus' opinion should be as valued as the next....just because it doesn't fall into "your" category, doesn't make it any less valuable. There are individuals that simply find no positive influence from cables and do not subscribe to that theory. I'm a cable believer, but not trying to convert anyone like it's a fact. As long as you try to find out, and make your own opinion, you're solid in my book.

I don't give one flying fork if you agree with the cable theory idea, but unless you conduct your own "testing" hence the subsequent conclusion, you're worthless and your opinion means nothing.

PolkThug is solid in my book, due to the fact that he took the time to try.

i thought they were pretty good, just skimmed through alot of it (someone needs to tell him that the return key is NOT his friend) but i thought there was some good stuff there. i think the author did a very good job of translating how the technical thongs (inductance, em rejection) relate to something we can actually hear, which is something i have not seen much of.

    thanks for the link!

btw- i have tried the 2 legged pants thing, with disasterous results!!!
