are you saying Ferres that Rti's are only good for music with weak vocals, women with squeaky voices?

Are you suggesting that Rti's (whom have a college dorm look btw) are a whimpy speaker that would be too afraid to fight?

I take offense to all of that. ;):D

The Telarc DVD-A/DTS disc is awesome. It sould be played at low volume the first time out. DO NOT crank up the volume untill you've heard it completely...the cannons wil give you a coronary and possibly damage your speakers if not crossed-over properly.

I have the SACD Telarc War of 1812 and laugh every time I see the warning label. The cannons sound like a mouse farting when compared to the cannons in Master and Commander - at least in my setup. I could see if you ran full range through the fronts without a sub you might want to make a calibration run before you set the gain. Nevertheless, an excellent SACD. I have found many of the Telarc SACDs to be quite good.

I wonder if there's a problem with the SACD version because the DVD-A/DTS version is nothing short of heart stopping.

maybe it's a bass management issue. The B.M. in my SACD player sucks (at least it has it right?) b/c it can only be tuned to 100hz. on the "small" setting. To me that's unacceptable as I like 60hz. all the way around.

Could be. I also haven't played it since I replaced my old Sony receiver with an Outlaw 1070. I'll have to give it another try sometime with my new setup. I just rememeber thinking - this is what everyone is talking about? On the Master and Commander DVD with my SVS PB12 plus/2 I could feel my pant legs flap during the cannon scenes.

Last time I played it I was using the bass managemnt in my Denon 3910. Now I actually set my Denon to source direct and use the 80 Hertz analog cross over in the Outlaw.

Hmm very interesting. It's easy to find the SACD version, I'll have to check around for the DVD-A version. I love DVD-A's I think they have a slight edge over SACD's but both are awesome if done right!
