    Tube or SS, it shouldn't color the sound. It should bring out tone, it should bring out more detail, it should not add any garbage and it should bring out soundstage and depth. I'll give a little on this one though because different tubes will manipulate the bass, midrange and treble differently. I forget my point now that I think about it. :)

    Oh Boy!!

    Tubes do distort the wave, call it tone, or what have you, its just we like the way the distortion sounds. I am thinking an HT pass through just might work for jcaut.

    When I first got into tubes, I prefered the 'colored' sound. I wanted pure warmth and silky smooth highs. Now I prefer a neutral tone with extended highs and lows.

    I just got a pair of Philips 5814A (selected 12AU7) and it sounds amazing. They're NOS for only $11 a piece. So if any of you are looking for some 12AU7, try this one. Got mine from www.thetubestore.com
