Z-680 plus R15 = YAH?
Hey guys, I am on a set of logitech z-680's and I am wanting to replace the two front speakers with a pair of r15's from outpost that cost 50 bucks a pair..
Do you guys think this can happen wthout blowing up the amp or something? thanks.

Aren't the z-680's hardwired? I just know most of my logitech products are hard wired. If not I'm sure you can do a splice. As far as the amp, I'm not immediately familiar with it, but the r15's aren't the hardest to drive and can probably be run by the z680's though your center would still be lacking

The Z-680 is not hardwired. They come with 5 bundles of speaker wire. Not exactly the biggest stuff, though.
Not sure that what you're suggesting would sound good... at all. According to the specs on Newegg, you're getting 44.75 watts to each satellite speaker. But that doesn't say RMS or Peak. Who knows what the actual output is.... Not to mention the crossover points. Chances are the satellites are not getting a very full signal, so the R15's may sound worse because you're not going to get any low end out of them.
Also, having different speakers for your front left and right is going to unbalance every other channel. They make those satellites all the same for a reason
But hey, it's up to you. If they don't sound good, you can either sell them, or build yourself a nice office rig with 'emLudicrous gibs! -
well the logitech z-680's delivers 62 watts to each satellite and what is the difference between RMS and non RMS?
but the pair is only 50 bucks and I probably can't go wrong with it for 50 bucks and can always reuse it if it doens't sound good :P -
sorry, I took the satellite power minus the center channel power, then divided by 4. Didn't need to subtract the center power.... you are correct.
RMS is supposed to be the power that the amp can deliver to the speakers for extended periods of time. More often than not, power ratings are grossly exaggerated. The peak power is the amount of power that it can theoretically deliver, at it's max output, for extremely short periods of time, right before the amp blows up
But yes, the R15's are only $50 right now, so why not? They, by themselves, are worth $50, even if you can't use them on the z-680.Ludicrous gibs! -
I have owned both a R50 and the z680, but never matched them up. I am not sure how well it will work. I remember the R50s upper range being very unpleasent but with a solid midrange, wheras the z680 speakers didn't have any major shortcomings except for center channel hiss. Then again, nothing about them blew me away. It's worth a shot, especially since the R50s are cute little speakers that worth $50 no matter how you use them, but no more than $50 I would say.My Iron Man training/charity blog.

I have done something similar with my altec lansing using Kef Q1's and worked well enough. But pc audio is not exactly audiophile grade.
