Best speakers only for music

Many people say: "this is not a great speaker for music, that made for HT". Ok, best speakers for music...? :eek: :eek:

Decide which series of speakers you are interested in, and then go listen & compare them & decide with your own 2 ears!

What equipment will you be running with them? What do you want to spend? ECT...

That's a tough question, speakers are a very personal choice. Figure out how much you're willing to spend, then start researching. Use a process of elimination:

1. bookshelf or tower
2. power requirements, effciency (based on your amplifier section and room size)
3. multi-driver or fullrange
4. brands of interest
5. listening tests if possible

There's a ton of very good speakers out there, good luck.

I believe a good musical speaker is also a good movie speaker but the reverse is not always true. Movie requirements depend more on a good sub and a good center channel so basically if its loud then its good enough. Musical speakers need to be accurate and your left and right and possibly rear left right have the most emphasis. Going up Polks line of speakers the LSi are the probably most accurate for music. The more serious you are about music the more you should spend in general.

To be honest I used to spend more on movies until I decided to replace my Bose cubes then I realized how much I was missing, so my music sounds fresh and new now with my Polks. I also started to get into SACD and for these High Res formats a good set of speakers sound real cool. If I knew I would end up where I am now and if I had more cash and a permanent residence I would have started looking for speakers at the top of the chain with a killer gear like lexicon instead of the least expensive. Its funny how a bad set of speakers can hold you back (Bose) but even the current crop of mid priced receivers are crap when it comes to being able to power a nice set of speakers. It starts to get expensive real quick.

i agree Steve and the list is a good start. the only way to find out what the best speakers are is to listen extensively to as many loudspeakers in your intended price range as is humanly possible for you. if you asked ten different people on this forum what the best speakers are it is quite possible to get ten different answers and none of the answers would be wrong. all listening is subjective. find out what your ears like the best and chances are that you will be alot happier than taking someone elses advice. good luck!..........WCW III

Currently polks best musical speaker in my opnion would be the lsi15 or 25's.

The entire line is musical. Rt series in my opnion isn't very musical. But you need to decide that for yourself.

Quad ESL-57's are.
Edgarhorn Titans are pretty fine, too (need the Seismic subwoofer for best results).

Anything from Vienna Acoustics is amazing for most types of music. There are a lot of differenty types of speakers for different types of music, but from what I've heard, Vienna sound good w/ every piece I've thrown their way, and they rock for movies as well. Only thing, they aren't cheap ($1300 for the entry level pair of bookshelves) and you need better gear to run them right.

Best speakers for music? They haven't been made yet!! Your ears will tell you what's BEST. No body can make that judgement call but you. We can all offer our opinions but that's about it. Decide if you want monitors or floorstanders, know what your eguipment can power, know your budget (very important as far as I'm concerned) & stay within it as close as possible. Otherwise you'll go completely nuts when you hear stuff you absolutely fall in love with but you know you can't afford them. Now get your butt out there and have some fun listening at all the shops in your area. Don't be afraid to try internet vendors. I actually had 4 pairs on hand to compare, 2 from local shops & 2 from the internet. Drove my wife crazy but I had a ton of fun. The one's that lost out as far as my ears were concerned were sent back.

My vote so far! is JmLabs Utopia Be Nova. Though my friend is getting in some theils he says are impressive as well
