Of all the equipment you've owned, what was your most favorite piece as far as cool factor?

I'm sure I'm gonna see some Nakamichi Dragon's out there....(they had major cool factor)

Mine? My Teac X2000R Reel to Reel. She was awe-inspiring.

Others that ranked pretty high:
-Teac Z6000 Cassette deck
-AR9Lsi Speakers
-Yamaha PF-800 turntable

I guess I can say I haven't found my favorite piece yet. I have a decent system I guess, but there's nothing in my system that really stands out. The Parasound is nice and I guess I'd have to name that my favorite piece, but not by a long shot.

My favorite component I have owned is by far the Definitive Tech BP10B...

They will be replaced in the future, but their replacement will be standing side by side with them. They, I hope - will never leave unless circumstances make them. They will always have a part of a system, even if it is not my main system...

They are some of the better speakers I've heard... and not to mention are just to fun...

I also pretty much brought them back to life from just a horrid first owner...

Basically, in short - these are my babies... :D

The SVS, the B&K, the Onix - all that... it could go and be replaced and I would really feel no loss at all...

On a cool factor level... the SVS for its size... but for ME - the DT's again with their bipolar array... love that stuff.. fantastic!
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

For me it's my speakers. They are unique/unusual in many ways. Sure they still need some paint, but function over form right?

It's a kit and it's not much, about $140 bucks but coupled together with a pair of KLH 17's that I got for $30 bucks and a CD player that was broken and I fixed , it was certainly a giant killer with a level of detail and clarity that I thought was unatainable in such a small and cheap package. It was the basis for a stereo that cost me about $175 total with cables and other parts.

My wonderful Signature Reference SR6500's of course!

Also, I had Pioneers first 6 disc changer back around 1990. The head unit had no radio and no power but it controled a HUGE 6 disc changer! At the time it was cool as hell!

On that note George, I had a Kenwood spectrum analyzer in the very early 80's that had a cool blue bar graph display of the different frequencies. It served absolutely no purpose other than cool factor...LOL, man I was a dweeb.

Probably Pioneer "C" series--not one of Pioneers finer moments. Remember when Kenwood started going down the tubes and they had the speakers with "fake" drivers? The set I personally witnessed had like 4 tweeters, only 1 was "real." The same era when they were using those **** looking chrome dustcover caps on the drivers....aw gawd...then there was the Sony "Honeycomb" flat digital woofer...sheesh...

What was it with the late 80's? Cars sucked, Stereo sucked, Music sucked.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I had one myself. I had the PDM60. It was a 6 disc and I loved buying the extra carts to store disc's in and lableing them. I loved that thing to death. I used to have it right next to my bed so I could use the front Headphone jack and volume control. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa I loved it.

Today It's my Dynaudio Audience 82's. I fully love them to death.

I'm still kicking myself for letting this go some 17 years ago to the owner of
an audio store out in Phoenix. I used the money to buy a complete system
including an Adcom GFA535, GTP400, Denon CDP and a pair of Klipsch Fortes.

Soon I'll have a new Tuber to run the show. Hopefully, it brings me as much enjoyment as me ole Mac did.

The Nak dragon was **** cool to the 10th degree. I remember seeing a Nakamichi turntable setup in the PX in Germany around 1985'ish that was cool as hell, but can't remember what the model was.

My only piece of Nak was the OMS-2 CDP that I had in the bedroom setup with an SAE cassette deck, Onkyo Receiver (90 watt), and AR speakers, I think "LSW...somethings..hell I can't remember, they were NOT classic AR's but nice.

I had a pair of Cerwin Vega towers in the early 80s when I was a GI. They were real barracks blasters -- the coolness was the orange mounting material for the woofers that I tended to get really moving with Zeppelin and Rush. I powered them with a Pioneer receiver that had wattage power lights that emanated from the center, green to orange to yellow to red. I saw the first shirt a few times about that...

Steve, Nak always used the Dragon nameplate for the best of the best they had to offer. You are probably thinking of the Nakamichi Dragon turntable. It actually used a vaccum system to suck the lp to the platter and it had a self centering spindle that exactly centered any lp. It was 'effing cool as hell not only because of the mechanic/engineering involved but it looked just as cool. They made a Dragon cd player as well that was a monster of a transport and a completely seperate DAC and power supply. All three pieces retailed for $10,000.00. The Dragon nameplate has always been the absolute best they could come up with at that point in time.

My Dragon cassette deck was absolutely phenomenal. The self adjusting azimuth system was simply amazing. You had to have an audio degree to set up each tape for recording. It had seperate test tones for L & R channels at 3 seperate frequencies to help set the tape bias and equalization for every single tape you put in the unit for recording. The Ferarri of tape decks

Listening to and saving for Polk Audio SDA 2.3TL's right after high school, was my coolness factor. I had no car but was in audio heaven, albeit watching movies in pre Dolby pro-logic times was not the best of times.

Since you mentioned seeing the Nak turntable on a PX, I'll chime in with seeing the Nak Dragon made me drool the most. I will have one someday, oh yes I will.
