Is audiogon really like this?!!!

Because if it is I dont want any part of it. A while back I listed my LSi9s (which were in great condition by my standards) on Audiogon as well as the Flea Market. Now the speakers ended up being sold to one my my classmates, so really the speakers stayed within my family rather than the polk family BUT I digress.

The fact of the matter is I had my speakers listed on the gon at 550 OBO with a 80 buck discount if they wanted to pick the speakers up locally. A pretty good deal either way as far as I'm concerned as I was only interested in getting the money back that I spent on these speakers ($530, I figured with the OBO people would give me some reasonable offers). So....anyways the speakers were sold, but I forgot to update my Audiogon ad saying they were sold. (a week or two ago).

Yesterday, I get this email from a guy offering 400 for the speakers. I replied saying I didnt appreciate his rather rude low-ball offer and that he should go elsewhere to find a deal like that...I mean most people on the gon are in it to make money, not to hand out deals like we do on the flea market.

His reply was "Oh now settle down sand ****."

What the hell is that?

I am so fvcking angry right now I cant put it into words. Should I be this pissed?

P.S. sorry for the rant, but this sort of behavior really pisses me off.

    I wouldn't consider that as your typical AGon member, though. There will always be an ignorant, back asswards, toothless, inbred **** in every crowd. Take the high road and just report the offer and response to AGon. If they don't want to do anything about it, then it will be up to you if you if you will want to do further business with their site.

    I agree with ND13, you should report that to A'gon. Unlike ePay, A'gon does care. Most of the folks there are first class and believe it or not most are not out to make money, just feed the habit, much like here.

    Having been a member of A-Gon the last few years I have noticed more and more people saying "lowballers will be ignored", probably because of losers like that. :confused:

    Wow...that's extremely insensitive. What an A hole. I can understand you being furious, but it's best to let things go. He was trying to ruffle your feathers. Don't give him the satisfaction of scathing response. If you haven't already responded, just send him a dignified 2 or 3 sentence response. People like him are just out to get a reaction....what a d*ck. If it warrants report him to A'gon not sure there's much they can do.

    FWIW, I've had nothing but great transactions and discussions with members of A'gon.

    Just to relate another story about A'gon. When I was looking for a Nak reciever for my 2nd rig I was checking both e-bay and A'gon, preferring to purchase from A'gon. I found one listed, great description...last sentence "low ballers will be ignored". His price was on the high side of what that model went for so I e-mailed him asking if he would split shipping ($15). He was asking $30 to ship. He said make an offer. He went completely off on me calling me a scum bag, idiot, loser, etc and basically said I was "low balling him". We sent a few e-mails back and forth and I finally realized the guy was a raving lunatic.

    So I guess my statement in the previous post was a little inaccurate. So I guess it happens on both sides. Still _I_ never reverted to name calling or racial slurs. I just asked him when he was released from the padded cell.

    Yeah, people are stupid... it's the one universal rule. Just report him to audiogon, it should be enough to get him banned.

    I think the guy was harboring waaaaay too much hostility. The guy is probably just angry at life and miserable in general. Hell, I wouldnt get as mad as I would feel sorry for the dumb@ss! but thats just me. Doesnt change the fact that it was wrong on so many levels, and definitly not typical of the Audiogon customer. report it.

    I dont get mad at lowball offers. I just assume people follow the "the worse they can say is no" principal. If I get a lowball offer, I say no thanx. Once or twice I'd type back "CMON DUDE!!!!!", but thats it. seems at the end of the 30 day run of an add, many people throw in lowbid offers figuring someone might be desperate. I write that off as part of the game.

    2 things...like George said, "sold" should've been your response and left at that. The other is don't give the asshat any type of response. You'll only give him the satisfaction of knowing that he pissed you off.

    I too met some extreme rudeness from a vendor on A'gon. This guy was a dealer and I asked him if he would match a price with another internet dealer that I googled on an amplifier. He proceeded to badmouth the other dealer and insult me for even asking him. We are talking a dealer here..not an individual seller and the difference was $100.00 on a $3500.00 amp.Then he sent me 3 more very immature and rude emails calling me names when I advised him I was going to shop elsewhere. Needless to say, I will never buy from this guy and I can't believe that he is business with that kind of lack of professionalism.

    Lowball offers are common but that comment ought to get him barred from the forum. I'd report it.

    The worst incident I was involved in was a turntable I made an offer on. $275 obo. Well, I emailed the guy and made an offer of $300 shipped. Keep in mind if I paid full shipping it would have been $315. After all, he did have "or best offer" listed.

    He sent me the following email:

    NO!



    No name, no nothing except "NO". That really pissed me off so I can imagine how you must feel. I still hope this fool ended up getting far less for it than he was asking. Other than that all has been great.
