Karma that is....

I've been pretty good about keeping a positive spin on this whole Karma thingee.........so I thought.

I'm on my way to work this morning, driving my `05 Dakota instead of the `95 Chevy, and have have a wreck. You know, it really wouldn't have bothered me if it would have been any other day. But it had to be the day that I decide to take the NEW truck. 3783 miles!!!! The Chevy, which is very clean, has over 270K on it.

Luckily I'm leasing the Dakota, it technically is Chrysler's, and I only have another 18-19 months left. The thing that worries me is that, even though, this is my first wreck, the insurance company will likely double my premiums  .

Just when I thought things were looking up and I was actually semi-happy, life has a way of kicking a man right square in the balls. I guess that just goes to show why I've always been content with just being content.

Noel, glad you're ok. that's the important thing.. cars/trucks can all be replaced/repaired, people can't.

Since it was your first accident... unless you were at fault.. i doubt your insurance will double your premiums. They may cancel your policy.. but doubtful they will double your premiums. I know that's little consolation. But having dealt with vehicle insurance several times over the years, i have some insight into their evil minds.

good luck. and sometimes you're right karma kicks you in the nuts and it smarts for a while.

Not to say it's no big deal, but I'd say this was nothing close to a direct hit; much more of a side glance. Unless, of course, the Dakota's almost totalled.

Hmm, but now that I see it's a 2005 Dakota....I wish more of those were in the junkyards. They're UGLY!!

    peace :p

Ok, y'all're focusing on the negative part of my post [which was actually meant to be funny (thought it's true; they're ugly!!!)]. I said that this wasn't major; that's the good side, right? :p

Noel - I, too, am glad you're alright. Hope the Dakota wasn't too badly damaged for your sake (and yours alone!! :D). Things could have been much worse, as has already been stated.

Sorry to hear you crashed....glad you're alright. I doubt the insurance co. will do much since it is your first. My mother has managed to get into a wreck with every car my Dad has owned. Some minor some major. They have never been cancelled an since there's been some time between each one rates haven't sky rocketed either.

I must have a guardian angel because when I was little I was in 3 accidents w/my Mom behind the wheel and 1 with my aunt driving. To be fair only 1 of the 4 were my drivers fault. Yep, she totalled a brand new '69 (289) Mustang convertable. Got rear-ended at a stop light. I was lucky I was in the front seat otherwise who knows. Back in 1970 car seats were more optional than mandatory. I think I was about 4 years old...old enough to sit up front.

When you get home grab a drink and put some Led Zep on your new SDA's and forget about it, nothing you can do to change it now :)

Glad youre alright otherwise tho bro.

Damn dude, sorry to hear about your luck. We had a few close calls on the trip this weekend, so maybe you were due for a wreck ;)

On a brighter note, just be glad you're ok. The truck is a truck, and always will be a truck. You, on the other hand, are a good guy, a husband, a father, and most importantly, a POLKIE! The only good side of any accident is if all parties can walk away from it. Just have some asprin handy for the aches and pains that may appear in the days after.

Give your loved ones a hug and be thankful you can. Evaluate what happened and if there was a way it could have been prevented, put that stick in the bag for the future and carry on. Time is on your side here.

I'm glad your safe Noel. Oh, you got something else to look forward to tomorrow. Your fat pipes are on the way.

Glad to hear you are ok. Karma is funny. There is a certain route to get to my house that I always take. My wife uses another and always busts my chops about my choice. Yesterday, for whatever reason she decides to go my way. She's sitting at the redlight and the next thing she knows **BAM** a guy in a van plows into her from behind. She gets out...for a fairly big hit her car doesn't look hurt (the bumper did it's job!)..but this other car is tore up all to hell. He's yelling about her car being ok and just exchange #s and go on. She know's better because a hard hit can do frame damage that isn't readily apparent. Come to find out the reason this guy is so animated...He had a wreck 30 min before about 10 miles away. Said he couldn't afford a tow truck so he was driving the thing home. The reason he ran into her...the first wreck made his brakes inoperable. IT WASN'T HIS FAULT..it was the bad brakes.... And yes, he claims to have insurance with one of the "high risk" companies. They are always fun to deal with. Hopefully the only damage is to the bumper cover...however it is pulling to the right. Maybe just knocked out of line.

She was saying how if she hadn't gone "my way" it would have never happened. Maybe, had she gone the other way it could have been something worse. Karma is funny like that.

Noel, sorry about the truck. You walked away from it, that's what matters. Good thing it wasn't at night on the way to or from Polkfest with your load of gear. I had my first and only accident 15 years ago due to a hidden water hazard on the road. The police wrote a report, issued no ticket but my insurance company doubled the rate! I checked with another company and even with the accident reported it was cheaper so I switched. Spend time with your wife, your new SDA's, and you will feel better.

Shack, we always wonder why things happen the way they do. What if your wife's car being there that day protected a pedestrian from being killed? I'm glad to hear she's ok.

    I'm glad all is well.

So I'm in the back yard on the tractor and the wife comes running back from the side yard in a panick screaming something at me. I shut the tractor down and listen when I hear Blah, Blah, Blah... Yukon, Blah, Blah Blah... New Bonneville. So I walk around to the front and there is my Yukon parked on the hood of my Bonneville and the wife is just standing there waiting on the incoming Nuke. I walked into the garage, strolled to the beer fridge, grabbed another beer and finished up the lawn. Oh well is all I can say and thank God for Beer.

HBomb.... there has GOT to be a story to that!

Oh, and the one accident I've been in was in the snow on the highway right after I got my license. I had missed my exit, and wasn't even where I should've been, when traffic stopped for another accident ahead. I couldn't get stopped, slid over into the passing lane, got t-d by another car, and spun around. BUT, if I had made my exit... it could've been something even worse! We just never know...

It's all about attitude brother. Vehicles can be fixed. Will your premium go up? Maybe. What's done is done...move on.

Ok ok, I have to post one of the funniest stories I've ever witnessed.

My father is a very, very strong and strict man. He and I were watching Jeopardy, and he was in his normal spot; sitting on the floor leaning his back against the couch. All of a sudden my brother opens the front door (16 at the time, I'm 14, Dad was 49) looks at my Dad like he's about to get killed and says, "Dad...I ditched your car."

My father then turned his head, watched the next 15 minutes of Jeopardy as my brother just stood there, scared for his life. Not a word was said...

Then, my Dad gazes at my brother and says, "Where is it?"

My brother pointed out the front window of the room and said, "Right there."

    PRICELESS!

He had a 15 minute drive home from work, and he managed to ditch my father's car right across from our driveway. We live in the contry and our ditches, no lie, are 3-4 feet deep. It was hilarious seeing the car almost completely engulfed in the ditch, with the headlights pointing up at around a 45 degree angle.

Ok, that was my story. :D
