"Best" is very subjective. Each one listed is a quality receiver. You will have to decide which one has the options and the sound you like best. I own a Denon AVR 885, which is the 2105's brother model. I am very happy with it, it does everything I ask it to...upconverting to component, multiple optical inputs, and a sound quality that I like. You'll have to demo or read up on each one and decide which has the most options you want in your price range. But again, what you have listed are all quality receivers.RTi4-fronts

I use to own the Onkyo 701, and would probably rate that the least. I was happy enough with it before I heard better, but after experiencing better I really found it was not enough to drive the Rti 10's for two-channel music without sounding too thin and bright.
The 2105 is a decent unit, good sound, a fair amount of power, and you could probably find a good price on it as the new 2106 is out.
Personally, I like the Marantz 5600 much better than any of the other three you listed. The most power, and the best sound, very warm and relaxing, not too harsh. Actually, I see you listed the 5500, you should probably go for the 5600 as that is the most up to date. It will not offer HDMI switching, XM radio or any of the other cool new tricks, but I've heard that a lot of the manufacturers are compromising amplification power to keep all these new feature laden units at similar prices as the old models. Marantz is still focused on sound quality first and foremost.
In fact, my experience is that even the SR4600 sounds better than the AVR2105, so the 5600 would be a rather large step up. If you can audition them, that would be best, as not everyone's ears are the same, but having heard all of these units, I would go Marantz and not look back.Current System:

I fI where to choose I would go with the Marantz or the Denon. This also depends on what system it's going into and how big the room is.
Also you have to consider hookup, does these receivers have what you need?
