rm6800 subwoofer hum

Hi. New to the forum. Have a Polk rm6800 sub that I'v attached to my receiver using the speaker wire inputs.

The hum that I get is much louder than the hums most people have described on this forum as far as I can tell. Yes, I've disconnected it from EVERYTHING and attempted to isolate if its a ground loop problem. I've even tested it in another area of the house without any inputs; the hum is present regardless.

What's more, it causes severe distortion oif the volume is turned up much past a whisper. I ran a signal from the speaker wire directly to the cone and there was no distortion at all, thus eliminating that as the problem. If it is a damaged transformer, how would I go about getting a replacement.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

    Hello Shoeless,
I'm sorry you are having a problem with the RM6800 sub-woofer. If I understand you correctly there is severe humming with the unit disconnected from your system, correct? If so, I would inagine the is a problem with the bass amplifier and it would need to be replaced. Are you able to exchange the sub-woofer with the audio shop who sold the system to you?
    Regards, Ken

Unfortunately, I'm in Ausatralia for the next 18 months. Do you suppose I'd be able to buy a replacement part on my next trip stateside?

    hi ken.

Just tried to call you from Australia. Noticed you were online. Can you give me some guidance on how to rectify my RM6800 subwoofer amp problem?

    Thanks

    Hi Ken,

I sent you an email through your profile as my efforts down here were apparently for naught. I'll repost the message below:

    Hi Ken,

Spoke to Interdyne in Melbourne and they said they would not do work on Polk products not bought in Australia directly through them. :(

As I said in a prior e-mail, I have acces to a weekly courriered delivery pouch between myself and my NY office, so I can get the amp to them and they can get it on to you, and vice versa.

When I was shipped over in January, I was alloted a small amount of stuff that I could bring with me. As you can imagine, my stereo was the first that I packed to go!!

Unfortunately, most of my documents (save my passports and medical records) were placed in storage, including my electronics recepits and manuals. I therefore do not have my info from Circuit City on the RM6800 kit. If this then requires me to pay for a new amp, then so be it. I just don't want to be without my home theater any longer.

Please tell me how to proceed.
    Regards,

    Shoeless

My RM6800 which I purchased two months ago has the exactly same problem. What should I do? I'm in US.
